Product Reviews of Rayovac NM713-2 Rechargeable NiMH D Batteries (Two-pack)Product Review: 2200 mAh is very low for D cell Summary: 1 Stars
for that power rating I would rather use AA cells rated higher with some old snap in D cell converters I have from an old NiCad set.
2200 is very low for a d-cell
Product Review: A "AA" battery in a "D" Case Summary: 1 Stars
These Ray-o-Vacs are really just a "AA" battery in a "D" case. Paul L.'s review is exactly on the money. I've seen a website that has a picture of this battery sawn in half, and it's obviously just a double AA inside. The battery itself is palpably far lighter than a regular D-cell. When I put these batteries into a flashlight with regular D-cells, they only last about a quarter of the time; it seems like I have to open the flashlight and replace them every time I use it. If you're camping, that just renders the flashlight almost useless.
Look at the rated capacity of the battery. A decent D-cell should have 5000maH capacity; a good one, 10000maH. These only have 2500maH.

Product Review: BabyToys Summary: 4 Stars
The batteries were packed well and received quickly.
These are great to use on baby toys (as well as your big kid toys)... just buy an extra set so you can always have a set charging while the other is in the toy.
The only reason I mention that is because the batteries do run down kind of quickly, and take up to 8 hours to fully charge.
But I'm not complaining... while there is an initial investment, think of the money you'll save on buying new batteries all the time. And you'll be doing a small part for the environment by not throwing out batteries all the time.
Product Review: Beware of so-called recharegeable "D" batteries Summary: 1 Stars
Be careful when shopping for rechargeable batteries! The Rayovac (and Energizer) products have the same Amp-Hour capacity as a "AA" battery! Do a little web searching and you'll find the Energizer is really an AA-sized cell in a "D" package - but sells for much more! I can't speak to the inner construction of the Rayovac, but it has a capcity of 2200 mAh -- definitely in the AA range (in fact, somewhat low for a good rechargeable AA these days). If you want the power capacity that a "D" size package should give you, look elsewhere -- the capacity should be in the 10,000+ mAh range.
Product Review: Don't Be Fooled Summary: 1 Stars
This is a AA battery in a D size case. It will last less than half the time of a "real" D size NiMH cell. The power available from a battery is indicated by the mAH rating, with more being better. The price of this item looks good until you realize you are paying for a D cell and getting AA performance.
