Customer Review: 10 years "Guaranteed" batteries only lasted less than 4 months

I purchased 8 batteries for 8 smoke detectors (ionization type), and installed them on 12/08/2010. All 8 smoke detectors started beeping with low battery signal within 4 months. I bought these batteries for 2 reasons - 1. Made in USA, 2. Life said 10yrs. $80 went to water in 4 months.
Sadly, I did not keep the receipts and the original packaging, as who would have thought that batteries manufactured in USA, would go bad so soon. I checked the manufacturer's website and their so called guarantee has following conditions:
- send them the used battery paying the postage
- include original packaging and receipt
- limited 1 per household
- include 3"x5" card with name, address and reason for returning and signature
