Product Review: Easy to Use Package But Unpleasant Scent
Summary: 2 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I liked the package. It sits easily on top of the dryer and doesn't take up a lot of room. I just could never get used to the smell. It has a strange chemical-like odor that I just did not find pleasant. I did not notice that my clothes looked any cleaner when I used this instead of my normal laundry dropps, Dissolving Liquid Pacs, Fresh Scent, 20-Load Pouch (Pack of 3) laundry detergent. I also did not get much use from the unit marks on the side of the package that was supposed to help you measure the correct amount of product for your wash load.

For the rather hefty price I expected to see a noticeable difference in the cleanliness of my most soiled clothing and I expected a much better smelling product. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

Product Review: Effective, but not COST-effective when compared with products that perform as well.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
First, allow me to congratulate DRY, Inc., for creating a great product. I have washed several loads of active wear (the equivalent of 13 of their "units"), and I have found the clothes to be clean and without odor. I have NO complaints about the quality of the product.

I just do not see the advantage in using something this expensive, especially when it has three obvious non-cost-related disadvantages --

1) This liquid is bright blue, which means chemical dyes -- the white-jug product I use ("WJP," henceforth) is "dye-free." I have some chemical allergies, often found in fabric softeners, so this the #1 issue for me.
2) Nothing on the packaging for ProWash claims it is HypoAllergenic -- my WJP IS HypoAllergenic, "dermotologist recommended."
3) Prowash does not claim to be perfume-free, as my WJP is. Both have very faint, soapy smells, but unless the product says it IS perfume-free, I have to assume it isn't.

Thus, for people with chemical sensitivities and/or allergies -- I'd be careful with this product.

In other respects, the two products are similar -- both have biodegradeable surfactants, and neither have phosphates, so they're BOTH environmentally friendly. The jug that the WJP comes in has a "recycleable" symbol -- the Prowash plastic bladder does not. So, I'd give the ECO-friendly edge to the WJP.

BUT, there is the unavoidable issue that Prowash, by my calculations, costs nearly 7 (yes, seven) times more per load as the local grocery store's retail price on a large WJP. Now that is a HUGE difference.

The only advantage I see that there could be in buying Prowash is to use as a "booster" as it explains on the back of the packaging: "Add a half Unit of ProWashTM with your regular detergent when doing your regular wash. This will aid in stopping the continuous buildup of surfactants that your normal detergent leaves behind on your garments." Well, ok, but that's an issue of trust -- other than swishing dirty clothes around in a tub to see if any suds come out, I don't really have an objective measure for surfactant-buildup.

If surfactant-buildup is an important issue for you, I heartily recommend ProWash, used 1/4 strength, as suggested, along with your regular WJP. Otherwise, I see no cost-related (or even non-cost-related) advantages to replacing my WJP with Prowash, even though there's nothing inherently bad about the product, unless chemical dyes and allergens are an issue for you, as they are for me.

Product Review: Eliminates Odors, But is it Worth the Money?
Summary: 3 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Pro Wash Activewear Detergent is newer detergent that claims to remove odors better than other detergents by breaking them down chemically and removing them from your clothing. It also claims to restore the fabric wicking to your clothing, reduces fading, and helps to restore the garment's original shape. It is highly concentrated, requiring only a small amount of detergent per load and it is packaged in an earth- friendly way that helps to minimize space and reduce negative impact on the environment.

The above claims are pretty impressive, but the only way to test them is to sample the detergent and see if it does, indeed, do what it claims. And now that I have used Pro Wash Activewear, I can agree that it does do a good job eliminating odors and it is packaged in a way that minimizes harm to the environment. With the scent, very little remains on clothing. It is rinsed out almost completely, leaving behind clothing that smells like clothing, further proving that the odor has been eliminated and isn't just covered up, like other detergents are known to do.

Pro Wash Activewear Detergent is highly concentrated and it takes very little to wash a load of clothing. But one must be careful when dispensing. This liquid is as thin as water and it flows very quickly through the small, round opening. To help with measuring, Pro Wash Activewear Detergent has a window- like opening on the back of the pouch that marks the number of units. So, after pouring out a small amount, just stand the pouch on a flat surface and see how much you have used. This system isn't perfect because it could result in having to pour a little more, then a little bit more, etc., to get the desired level and, if you pour too much, you obviously cannot remove it. I recommend using your own measuring device to get a more accurate measurement. This system isn't very efficient on its own.

While Pro Wash does perform nicely in the odor- reducing department, I cannot necessarily say that this detergent is worth the money. I like that it is highly concentrated and packaged in an Earth friendly manner. But is it good enough to justify the high price for a detergent that, when used in a top loading machine, is good for only twelve loads of laundry? Perhaps if I was more active and truly needed the odor- fighting qualities of Pro Wash, I would like t better than I do. But as it stands, I consider it an average product. It does live up to its claims, but it is tough to justify the high cost when there are other detergents that clean and eliminate odors equally well at a cost less than half as high.

Product Review: Excellent concentrated detergent, weird container
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I like that this detergent is concentrated--24 HE servings in a tiny, lightweight container. It effectively cleaned all but my stinkiest work clothes on a quick setting with cold water (and I really should have used a longer cycle/warm water for that, but I wanted to test it in the lowest-energy conditions).

In addition to a load of work clothes in cold/fast, I tested it with woolen handknits on the wool setting with cold water in my front loading washer (great job, even on the stinky socks), and with hot water on very dirty rags (excellent, even with a frankly overstuffed load).

The concentrated formula and lightweight packaging make it very convenient to tote and store--and transport, for a smaller environmental footprint. But the dosing is a little hard to get used to--although there are marks on the bag for portion control, you can't really use them while you're actually pouring, so they're pretty impractical. Some kind of squirt spout and portion lines going the opposite direction would make more sense. At it is, it sloshes out very quickly--this isn't viscous like regular detergent. But the package does suggest using your leftover measure lid from another detergent, which works fine, but it's not the slickest solution. I also like that there's no waste--with conventional liquid detergent bottles, there's always that last little bit you can't get out because it gets trapped behind the drip tray.

While getting it here seems pretty green, I don't know how/if I can recycle this kind of container in my area, which is a bummer, and why it gets only 4 stars.

Product Review: Excellent laundry product
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I used Prowash to clean a bunch of fleece jackets and my husband's biking and yoga clothes -- many of which he "forgot" to put in the laundry. So, this was quite the challenge. I was skeptical that two tablespoons of the product would work, but it did. Everything came out perfectly clean and fresh, with no feel of soapy residue. I didn't see the measuring pouch that is supposed to be on the side of the package, so measured two TBS myself. Since I have a HE washer, it's good to know that so little product performs so well. I would recommend this to anyone who regularly has to clean sweaty activewear.
