Do some internet shopping before you buy because these are a lot cheaper in several other places. True Value Hardware has them for $4.88. "Protec" your humidifier. These little balls are the handiest thing on the market as well as the most economical. Just drop one in once a month. No more buying all those bottles for bacteria, mold, slime, etc., this little gem does it all. I don't feel like my humidifier is a drag anymore.Product Review: Pro-Tec cleaning cartridge

It is very expensive and I am not sure this really cleans the tank any better then you could do with just washing the tank out yourself once or twice a month.
