Customer Review: Advertised magnifying power far from true.

These four glasses are advertised as 3X to 8X in power. Not so. You can prove this to yourself. Place something long and thin, such as a pencil, on the table top. Using each glass in turn, focus on the object and compare the width of the magnified image as compared to the unmagnified width of the portion of the object which is not under the glass. All four of these magnify about the same - between 1-1/3 and 1-1/2 power. I used to sell jewelry supplies, including magnifying loupes of 5X to 15X. None of these even approach a 5X. Yes, they are glass. So are the ones at the big box store, and they magnify about the same and cost much less.
I sent the above to the seller. They responded thusly:
"Place a piece of paper with writing/text on a table and view it through a magnifying glass. Move the glass away from the paper until the text is no longer in clear focus; then move it closer to bring it back into focus. Now measure the distance of the center of the magnifier from the paper; divide this number into 40. The result is the diopter - to arrive at the magnification of the magnifier, divide the diopter by 4 and add 1. The total power (the measurement the manufacturer uses and what we state in our description) will be that number plus 1. Again, this test is only a rough thumbnail of magnification but certainly more accurate than attempting to measure size-increase of an object."
My next letter to them said:
"So what you are saying, I believe, is --
When a binocular is advertised at 10X, it makes the focused object appear 10 times larger. When a camera uses 3X optical zoom, full zoom makes the focused object 3 times larger. When a jewelers or fabric loupe is rated at 5X, it makes the focused object appear 5 times larger.
However, when YOU advertise at 3X, it does NOT mean that the focused object appears 3 times larger. Correct?"
It has been several days. They have not responded.
