Product Reviews of Philips Norelco arcitec 1050 Men's Shaver

Product Review: Good, but no better than the cheaper Norelcos!
Summary: 3 Stars

I have tested many brands of electric shavers over the decades but I have stayed with Norelco because I prefer their design and performance. My present Norelco, about 5 years old, is still going strong but needs a new battery so I thought I'd try the Arcitec 1060. It looks very high-tech with its articulated heads, but the bottom line is it shaves no better than my old model. I actually shaved half my face with the Arcitec and the other half with my old one. There was not the slightest difference in the closeness and I had the same amount of stubble on both sides 24 hours later. What's more, my old Norelco still has its original blades! It's also more solid and I think it's nicer to use. Also, the Arcitec has very little space beneath the cutters to hold the beard clippings, so you have to wash the heads after every use. Not a big deal, but I wash my old heads maybe once a week. So the Arcitec is going back. My advice to those in need of a new shaver: Try one of Norelco's cheaper models first.

Product Review: Great
Summary: 5 Stars

After trying out a Philips (Norelco) 7120 to see if I could escape the wet razor trap I was ready for the next step; that model worked fine, except that by design the battery doesn't last that long and I could seldom get an acceptable shave around the neck. The 1050x solves both problems, I can shave in less time (must be the blades it uses) and it charges very quickly (one hour, with a quick charge for emergencies).

It comes with a travel "sarcophagus" (which I find a nice detail) which can also be used to charge the razor, and a charging stand; the hair deposit chambers for each blade do fill quickly, particularly with anything older than a day old stubble for me, and a sign comes up asking you to empty them - which is done quickly and easily enough.

The only negatives are that it's quite a bit noisier than the 7120, but then again that is quite quiet... I still cannot get the best shave over the area between my mouth and my chin... But then again we all different facial features... And it's pricey... I'm still kicking myself for not buying this when it came out as a special deal... But I needed it too much to wait for another one to show up.

Product Review: Great Razor
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great razor but you should upgrade to the 1090 if your boyfriend/husband likes to have warning of how much time is left until it needs to be charged again.

Product Review: Great Razor
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the second Arcitec that I have purchased. I travel frequently for work, and got tired of having to remember to toss it in my travel bag every time I go out of town. Best Norelco razor that I have owned, and I have been using electric razors since I started shaving. Extremely close shave, very easy to use, and a breeze to clean. If you have never used an electric, try this one, and you will be surprised.

Product Review: Great Shaver - Clunky Charger
Summary: 4 Stars

The NORELCO Arcitec 1050 provides an excellent shave, cleans easily under running sink faucet. And I've always been impressed with Philips quality. However, traveling with the either of the two, provided, clunky chargers is problematic. The charger takes up a lot of room in my traveling gear. This is compared to my previous NORELCO Shaver with an internal charger. So, I travel with my old NORELCO and use the new Arcitec 1050 at home. Shaving with the Arcitec is comfortable, close and fast. Since I have Irish, red, naturally curly hair on both head and face the close AND comfortable shave is appreciated. Other shavers leave the hair too long and cause ingrown chin and neck hairs, or "Shave Bumps". I hope this will help your decision.
