Product Reviews of Philips Norelco T980 Turbo Vacuum TrimmerProduct Review: Awesome Trimmer Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little concerned after reading a few of the negative reviews. Nonetheless, I decided to go with this trimmer, it had a lot more positive reviews than negative and it was the most expensive trimmer on amazon at the time and I was looking for a high quality trimmer.
After a few uses I quickly realized why some of the negative reviews said the trimmer didn't trim. I recall one guy saying he was pressing super hard but it didn't trim any hair. So here's the scoop, the plastic guard/head if improperly seated on the top of the trimmer stands 1/2 - 1 inch higher than it should. Thus on virtually any setting, the trimmer part isn't touching your face. This is not a big deal, properly seating the guard on the device is pretty simple.
For me the battery on the trimmer has lasted about 25-35 trims of the my full beard. I don't use the turbo vacuum feature as I heard that it runs the batteries out quicker and it doesn't seem like it's needed anyway. I keep my beard pretty short and the vacuum under normal power does the job.
The device has 10 length settings and an extra trimming pieces to do clean-up type work. It doesn't make that much noise (when the turbo button is not on) and it is a very light device. I think the overall size of the device is "just right". It's feels comfortable using it and it's not overly large which would make for awkward use.
The only suggestion I'd have for Norelco is to beef up the friction on the length adjuster. While using the device a few times the length setting moved to a lower setting unintentionally.
All in all I am extremely satisfied with this trimmer. For not a lot of $ I feel like I bought the best trimmer that was available on the market.
Product Review: Awesome Trimmer Summary: 5 Stars
This T980 is great. It may be a tad louder than normal trimmers but its worth it. Having the built-in vac suck up most of the trimmings makes cleaning up a cinch. And the turbo is a god sent for my coarse beard. The battery life is awesome. I would highly recommend this trimmer to anyone.
Product Review: Awesome trimmer Summary: 5 Stars
This trimmer is a well designed and manufactured gadget. The hair length selector is firm to adjust but the guide comb wiggles slightly front to back when raised. The vacuum is great, it catches 97% of my hair. I can use it about three times before it needs emptied. Cleaning is a breeze, since most of the hair is trapped. I like to use a dust remover air can to blast the excess hair away. The Turbo works well although there's no need for it. It adds about 30-50% more speed (you decide) and 100% more noise. The power cord attaches quite snuggly in the bottom so no worries about it falling out. Although not flawless this is hands down the best beard trimmer I've ever owned.
Product Review: BLADES OF FURY Summary: 5 Stars
This trimmer is sharper than the devil himself. My cat, Loid, was once 10lbs of fur and bones. Now, he's just bones. A lot of people say that the blade level switches on them during use. So let me get this straight. Our boys are in Iraq fighting for the George Bush war machine and these guys talk about the level's switching on their trimmer? I wish that was my biggest problem of the day. I have never had that problem with the trimmer. Most of the hairs are captured in the hair cage. Let me tell ya, after I butter myself up for a nice shave, I let the Norelco do the work, and the result makes my face make a baby's butt feel like sandpaper.
Product Review: BUY UNLESS YOU ARE FROM THE HARD OF THINKING CLUB Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking to find a groomer that was fast and could provide an even cut on my beard which consists of both straight and curly hair. This one sounded like the right choice plus it had the bonus vacuum feature, but some of the negative reviews about sudden cutting length changes almost made me pass it by. I am happy to say that I purchased the groomer and have had no problems at all with unwanted adjustment changes. With the amount of people complaining about this, I have no doubt that it can happen, but my guess is that in most cases if not all, it has more to do with the way the groomer is being held. I can imagine situations where with a death grip on the adjustment ring and extreme down pressure on the cutting head, one might be able to duplicate the problem during a direction change. I really like the vacuum feature and would put it the 90% range for effectiveness when taking your time and not trying to trim your beard when you're already twenty minutes late! I have normal hearing and do not find the trimmer overly loud even in the turbo mode which for me is the only mode that I use as both the cutting and vacuum features work best at high speed and battery life remains very good.
