Product Review: A nice shaver, but hardly revolutionary

This is a nice shaver, quiet and painless, with good battery life, and a reasonbly close shave, but hardly the "revolutionary development" that Norelco touts. If you need a new one this is a good choice, but I would not throw out an old Norelco rotary that works well just for the upgrade. The charger stand is pretty much unnesessary, and useless for travel, since you can plug the recharging cord directly into the razor. The little analog battery clock is a cute touch if you don't have a larger clock in your bathroom. But a serious drawback is that the travel pouch does not have room for the power cord, meaning you have to leave it home, and hope the charge lasts the length of your trip.Product Review: 9160XL - Great Shaver

I've been using the 9160xl for a year now. In short, it's a great razor. I use it on my face and head, and I have no complaints. The battery life is long, and the shave is close. It's definitely worth the price.Product Review: norelco quality can be had in a cheaper razor

I've been using Norelco rotary razors for years, I can't really see/feel a difference in the upgraded blades for this model but it does follow the contours of my face better than my older Norelco's allowing for reduced shavings time. This model tends to collect hair/dirt more easily than other models and needs to be cleaned more often. The faucet light that reminds you to clean the razor is unnecessary.
The plastic cover that fits over the blades broke within a week.

I've been delighted at how smooth, quiet, and fast it has performed.
I'd considered a foil-type at my son's recommendation but stuck with my
Norelco rotary and it is much better than my previous one. Very pleased.

I've been using Norelco shavers for past 18 years, so I've always liked their product. Before I bought this item, I had an old (12 years old) Norelco that I wanted to replace. My brother had bought the 9160XL shaver a while ago and after I checked it out, I thought it looked nice and was much quieter than the older model that I had. I didn't use his to see how well it would shave, so I decided to take a chance and buy it based on his recommendation. However, I was skeptical about how good it would shave because it was too quiet. After I bought and received the shaver, my very first shave was simply great. I can't recall the last shave I had that made my face this smooth. The shave is so close that I don't get a "5 o'clock" shadow until the next day! Another very important thing is that after shaving, I don't get a burning/irritating sensation with this shaver. I don't have sensitive skin but my old Norelco would sometimes irritate my skin.
I also liked the face-contouring elements that they have added to this shaver. I don't have to fight and press the shaver as hard on my face to get the blades to touch my skin.
Cleaning the 9160XL is breeze; just rinse with water and let dry. Battery life is great too. I have used this for 2 months (over 30 shaves) and it still has 1/3 of its charge left!
I would strongly recommend this shaver.
