I finally replaced my old, widely travelled, Norelco Advantage Shaver with the 8140XL. The table on this page is very helpful, as was Brendan's detailed review. After the usual struggle with the shrink-wrap, I charged it and put it to work. What a difference! I was amazed at the closeness, speed, and quietness of this newer generation of shaver. I consider it a huge step forward from the older versions. Somewhere in the battle with the shrink-wrap, I must have lost the little cleaning brush, they talk about in the manual. I expected to have it and maybe a little vial of mineral oil packed in the soft case, but no luck. However, it rinses easily, and using any mineral oil will be just fine. Also, for traveling, not having to physically switch it to 220VAC is a nice touch.
What I do not like: The goofy stand. It looks like some store display stand, and lacks the stability and heft of the older Norelco shaver's charging stand. I also don't like the pins in the charging well of the stand. Flush contacts would have been a better and stronger choice.
All in all I am very pleased with this purchase and with Philips' 15% off promotion, consider this an excellent deal.

I have owned this razor for about 2 years. This thing holds a charge like no other product I have ever owned. I think I must charge this razor maybe once a month or every 3 weeks - and I use it daily.
However - the other day the razor stopped taking a charge. The lights would not light up, and when they did - the "full" indicator would not light up. I figured that the "full" light may be broken... but after a couple of days the razor died and the charge light stopped lighting up.
So I called Customer Service - A recording comes on and says do you want to make a purchase or say "other." I say "other" and in 20 seconds an ONSHORE CSR answers - asks me 5 or so questions - when you bought it, how you use it, when you charge it, etc.
Then she says a new razor will be sent out to me - and Fexex labels will be included to send my old one back. WOW!! It was that easy - No Hassle, no RA#, No send it to a repair facility with a check, no refurb!
Great Razor and A+ customer service - you get what you pay for.

The shipment came on time. I did use it as per the instructions, it shave was poor, discomfortable, burning face. Not worthy for the money spent. I'm not using it any more

been a Norelco guy since whisker #1 and this is a good choice for the person who does not need all the bells & whistles. Very easy to get a super-close shave and incredibly easy to clean. the only thing keeping me from giving it a 5 is the fact that it does not give any warning that it is about to crap out and require a recharge. Granted in a minute you can be shaving again, but it is a minor annoyance.
Product Review: After about a week... Summary: 4 Stars
It seems as if it's way weaker than my older 8825xl and it seems that it takes more time to clean the neck than if I would have used the 8825. It does get rid of facial hair better though and that's what counts the most. I like the overall design and the blue led is a nice touch. Haven't noticed the advertised effect of the 50% shaving surface, oh well.
