I received this razor as a gift either two or three years ago. It was replacing my Norelco 5814XL, which had lasted several years (replaced blades at least twice on that one), but was not running smoothly, like maybe it had a worn bearing. The first thing I noticed was that this is lighter than my old one. It feels a little cheaper, but being waterproof, I figure it may have more plastic components. The next thing I found was that the charging light would never go off to indicate a full charge. Norelco's live web support said it sounded like a bad battery and to call their 800 number for an RMA. The 800 number rep said there was a misprint in the instructions and that the light wasn't supposed to turn off. Okay, whatever.
It never has given as close of a shave, even when new, as the 5814 does. The battery used to last about three weeks between charges and has gradually declined to more like two. Again, that isn't as long as my old one, but is reasonable. The problem lately is that the power switch just won't work. I can press it several times, hold it down, etc., and it may start or it may not. I've found plugging it in for a recharge will usually get it to work again, but I'm not getting the low battery indicator the previous day when I use it. It is either draining itself overnight or the switch needs full or nearly full battery power to work. Either way, it's become unreliable and a disappointment. And it never was as good as my old one, which I've kept as a back-up and is getting more and more use. By today's standards, maybe two or three years is reasonable for a razor. Being able to rinse it out is nice, but you still have to remove the blades about once a month and brush them off to remove build-up. Considering the other issues, I would say this razor was average at best.
