Product Review: Goodbye throwaway razors.

I purchased this razor after being continually frustrated by the performance of every disposable razor I have owned. Cuts, inconsistent results and high cost led me to look for an alternative to throwaway razors. I tried electric razors for a while but again I have been disappointed by their performance.
The Parker has been a great razor thus far delivering close consistent shaves every time. It also seems to be a lot more economical and greener than the disposables. I purchased a pack of 100 blades for 15.00 dollars. That is a lot of shaves. I highly recommend some of the other shaving accessories to go with you new razor. Shaving soap, sceptic pencil, aftershave, all of them make the experience better and more enjoyable. All in all this is a quality razor at a fair price.

I bought this safety razor for my husband for Christmas this year and it was a big hit hands down. After years of using disposable razors that were very unsatifatory with his heavy beard he is finally getting a close shave. Not only a clean close shave but a single blade gives him multiple shaves where he was lucky to get two shaves from a disposible. He actually enjoys shaving again because he is getting great results and I get to enjoy his nice smooth cheeks again. Everyone talking about going green- this is a small start. After trying every available modern shaving gadget (cartridge razors, electric razors, etc) I decided to go old school because nothing was 100% satisfactory. Cartridge refill prices were absurd and gave me nasty burns. I used electric razors for years and they worked fine but I'd still get razor burn due to having to go over the same area multiple times.
Although I will keep my electric razor handy for whenever I'm in a pinch (time, traveling, etc) Shaving with a DE safety razor is an experience unmatched by any modern contraption. This razor gives me smooth and comfortable shaves without irritation. It is outstanding when used with a quality shaving soap, a badger brush, and a quality aftershave.
Sure, the shaves are slower but since you are paying more attention to what you are doing you get a more even and closer shave with less passes. Mine came with the Shark blades and they work very well for me (plus, they hold their edge very well.)
Good craftsmanship, a very solid razor that no doubt will last many many years. I like the twist to open mechanism which makes blade changing fast and safer. The only down side is that it tends to collect soap scum quite easily but it's not a big deal for me since it cleans easy. After every few shaves I just rinse it with very hot water and towel it off and it's shiny again.
There is a learning curve but it isn't as pronounced as others have said. Basically, you have to unlearn any bad habits you've picked up by using multi blade modern razors and, maybe the hardest thing, remember not to apply pressure.
Bottomline is that this is a quality product at a competitive price. I don't know why so many have abandoned traditional shaving in favor of the low quality and mega expensive multi blade cartridges, but nothing comes close to a shave with this razor, a nice shaving soap, a badger brush, and a nice aftershave. You don't know what you are missing!

First off I have to say that I am a relative newcomer at this traditional style of shaving. I have been shaving for 16+ years and I have always found myself somewhat disappointed by the results given from by disposable blades. As time has passed I have tried every disposable known to man from the old 2 blade Bic's to the more recent 5 blade Gillette's. Each one left me bloody and burnt. A while back I was talking to an older gentleman at my local barber shop. The conversation had moved to shaving and several were complaining about their disposables causing razor burn and constant nicks and cuts.
This older gentleman decided we needed a lesson on manliness. After about 30 minutes of talking about how he has always shaved with a double blade safety razor and never has any burn or cuts. Always one to take advice when given by someone with experience and who is trustworthy. (I trust my barber more than I do the people I work with... sad isn't it...) I decided I would give it a try. I hopped on Amazon and quickly turned up the Parker 22R. After reading the reviews I thought I would go ahead and get it along with the Col. Conk Bay Rum Shave Soap, Soap Bowl 7 Tweezerman Shave Brush. All in all I spent around $35 (free shipping).
Everything arrived within a couple days I am here to say that I will never go back to a disposable for as long as I live. The shave given by the razor is the closest shave I have ever experienced. The scent of the Bay Rum Soap takes me back in time to a place long forgotten. After my shave I use a Bay Rum After Shave lotion that leaves me feeling like a new man.
I have yet to cut myself and I have not had razor burn since this arrived. Each blade lasts about 7-8 shaves even on my tough beard and I actually don't have a 5 o'clock shadow until way after 5pm! I recommend this razor to anyone who is looking for a well made beginning double blade safety razor. The black chrome finish is really nice and durable.
