Product Reviews of Pancake Puffs with BONUSES:recipe book, flipping sticks, shaker, injector and more!Product Review: It works very well. my kids love it. Summary: 5 StarsI am a dad at home with my kids during the day. I bought the set at a local outlet for 19.99. The first thing we made is the pancake puffs. I used bisquick pancake mix. they were great.
Now I think there is a trick to it soo I will lay out what I do.
First heat the pan. I use a medium heat on our flat top range. I actually set the dial to 4 so its just below medium.
I then mix the batter. I cut a small piece of butter and put it in the middle well and spread it with the included brush into the other wells. the butter should melt fast and make some hissing sounds. You know your pan is hot enough then. I use a 1 tablespoon measuring spoon to ladle the batter into the pan wells. I use another spoon to wipe the excess batter of my ladle spoon. I fill each well just a little more then half. After about 2 minutes, the batter rises and small bubbles start to set on the surface. I use the wooden sticks to turn them. I use 2, one in each hand. one stick pushes one side down and the other stick kind on gets under the other side and guides it to flip. Then in about 2 more minutes their done.
It works.
The trick is to preheat the pan and dont touch the heat. If you dont let it heat you migh turn it up to high and the first batch will be ok but the next might burn. Also butter the wells for each batch. I use the same heat setting for everything I make with this pan.
I also made the crab cakes but I used tuna instead of crab meat and a thomas english muffin instead of bread and it was vey good. and a great way to get my kids to eat tuna.
We also made blueberry muffin puffs from pillsberry blueberry muffin mix.
The only thing that did not work is brownies from a box mix. I think brownies take to long to cook that they burn on the outside before the center is done enough.
Product Review: Pleased despite reviews Summary: 5 StarsI bought this pancake puff pan on a whim at the local Target. It was on the endcap of an aisle in the "As seen on TV!" section. I was iffy.. I'd been iffy on getting one since I saw the commercials.
Of course, the fact that I could get it at Target and not have to pay shipping was a big factor. That and if it sucked I could just drive the 5 minutes over there to return it for my money back.
I decided to try the puff pan with, of all things as my first. CAKE MIX. Yep, Chocolate friggen cake mix. I ended up needing to use two sticks to flip the puffs over, and they got a little messy at times. Plus, with cake mix you'll want to use slightly less than 3/4 of each little hole to get a desired small ball. Also, set your stop-top to 2-3 .. fairly low setting, but believe me. It's worth the wait. I filled our chocolate cake puff balls with.. sprinkles, chocolate chips, M&M's, and mixed nuts just to see how well I'd manage with the different fillings. I realized I should have put some extra batter ontop of the fillings.. but.. meh for the most part they turned out really well!
The pan is amazingly more non-stick than the negative reviews on Amazon would have you believe. I use a tiny little bit of non-stick spray.. and even made a point to wipe most of it out because it just seemed like too much. I had no problems with any of my cake puffs flipping at all.
I haven't tried any of the little extra's.. the brush, the filler or the shaker yet.. but the sticks, pan and handle cover are great!
I can't wait to actually try it with omelette's like the recipe book suggests. I'm sure it'll do just fine!
Product Review: Panckae puff pan Summary: 1 StarsIt is not as easy as the informercial makes it look. It is good for anything with a thin batter and only for the first batch. After the first batch the pan is too hot and everything burns. I probably will not use this that often but its still kind of neat!!!
Product Review: Very great for an 'as seen on tv' product Summary: 5 StarsI bought this because I wanted takoyaki and this was the easiest alternative to getting a pan on the fly (we drove sown the road to BB and B and used a $10 off coupon.) I didn't read any reviews before buying, I took my chances. For an infomercial product, this was great. Nice heavy pan... glad it wasn't a thin metal pan that would end up rusting after a wash or two. I don't know if it is really coated cast iron, but it is heavy enough to be.
A quick wash and dry off, then over to the stove on medium heat (electric burners set on 5 out of 9) I let it sit for a minute while I washed the oil brush. Brushed a light coat of canola oil, added boxed pancake mix, thick hot dog pieces and colby jack cheese. Once they were cooked enough to turn, flipped them over with the bamboo skewers provided and let them finish off. My 3 yr old loved them. He walked around with one telling me "they were really good, Mommy." Then I brushed a little more oil and started on my takoyaki (with shrimp, instead of octopus) and didn't have any trouble at all.
Didn't use much oil at all, dipped brush into oil once to coat heated pan. Be sure to not overheat the pan, rather it cook a little slowly than burning it all because you want the food fast. Keeping it on lower heat setting and being a little slow turning them, made for a nice crispy outside. Turning is easiest bu just poking the puff and flipping. You can order yourself a metal turner, but the skewers work just fine. Didn't use the filler or shaker yet, but based on just looks they are of the cheaper make. We are looking forward to trying other varieties. Really cute idea for the little ones. Wished the recipe book came with a little more recipes, but we have internet, so we'll just search on our own.
*Note, we got ours from B, B and B for $19.99 plus tax. It came with the Free Bonus items included. They usually send coupons every month for $5 off, 20% off or $10 off $30. So it is much cheaper than ordering online or TV because we don't pay shipping or for the bonus items which is an extra $15 plus additional shipping and handling. And if you really hate it, you can just return it back to them for an instant refund.
