Better than cloth diapers with plastic pants over them! Diapers have improved so much from the first disposable ones - the core of tapioca-looking pearls that absorb fluids has made these products vastly superior to what was available in the 1960's or early 70's. While the diaper companies might be trying to experiment with new technology to provide more absorption, in my opinion it's all good. Diaper rashes used to be a commonplace condition that went hand-in-hand with diaper-wearing tots. Sometimes, particularly in the summer, tots get diaper rashes from urine that is concentrated due to a need for more fluids and can be irritating to the skin. Some tots are more sensitive than others. Women's sanitary pads have become almost wafer thin yet they still absorb well and wick moisture away. While these diapers are different than the old version, and perhaps do not have the dam-like features that the rumples of the interior of the older cruisers offered thereby presenting an obstacle to very fluid stool that is forcefully presented (and dams in the fluid stool while it is absorbed), this does not necessarily mean that all tots need such a level of protection. So, some parents may prefer the thinner design of the diapers. When my four babies were little and breast-fed, I needed a diaper with different qualities than when my tots were older and their stool consistency changed with the advent of solid foods. Anyway, I gave these diapers to my nephew who has 4 tots and will update as to whether these worked for the baby boy who is breast-fed but also eats solid foods.
UPDATE: My relative told me that these diapers were excellent. She said she had no complaints whatsoever and she didn't know what the reviewers on Amazon were talking about. Her son is on solid foods now, however, so perhaps this is one reason she had no complaints.
