Product Reviews of PRO-Fiberoptic L.E.D. Otoscope with Zippered Leatherette CaseProduct Review: Absolutely love this otoscope, could not be happier with my purchase Summary: 5 Stars
I really like everything about this otoscope. I have been using Welch Allyn products my entire career as a nurse practitioner. My old Welch Allyn was a nice otoscope but the bulb recently went out on it. By the time I paid for a new bulb and the shipping it was going to cost me over a third the price of this otoscope. The bad thing was that I just replaced the bulb less than a year ago. Also the rechargeable battery would only hold a charge for around one hours use before it began to dim. It was an old battery so I guess it was wearing out. I priced a new battery and between the battery and the bulb it was going to be more than this entire otoscope. I also priced a new Welch Allyn fiberoptic otoscope and it was 4 times the cost of this model and was only warranted for a year. This otoscope was warranted for life.
The light on this otoscope is brighter than any otoscope I have ever used. I also could visualize the tympanic membrane more clearly than I could with my old Welch Allyn otoscope. I have also used the otoscope for over 6 months now and have yet to replace the 2 alkaline C batteries I initially put in the otoscope after it arrived. The light is still just as bright as ever. I am not sure how long it will take to drain these batteries. I use the otoscope on a daily basis in my office practice. I thought about buying C cell rechargeable's to use with the otoscope but if it takes this long to drain a regular set of batteries I am not sure I need to mess with rechargeables.
The one problem I did have with the otoscope was that when I first received it my welch allyn specula would not fit snugly on the end of the otoscope. I contacted the company and they sent me out a new otoscope head that fixed the problem and a postage paid envelope to return the defective one.
Overall I do not think you will find a better value in a
professional type otoscope on the market than this one.
Product Review: Best Otoscope Value Ever - light is amazingly bright! Summary: 5 Stars
I love my otosocpe. I can not believe how bright this light is or how well I can visualize the tympanic membrane. The lifetime warranty that even includes the light source is just icing on the cake.
By the time I included taxes and shipping it was going to cost me almost $40 for a new bulb for my old halogen otoscope.
My old otoscope is from the premier brand of otoscopes I purchased 7 or 8 years ago during my first year of med school. I have already replaced at least 3 or 4 bulbs over that time and I haven't even used the otoscope that often.
I can see much better with this otoscope and it cost me a third of what the old one did 8 years ago.
In my honest opinion I do not think you will find a better overall value anywhere than this otoscope.
Product Review: Best for the price does not always mean "The Best" Summary: 3 Stars
First off, the light that is emitted is great. As long as it works, I think this device will perform be greatly. Read the instructions carefully. Do not unscrew anything On the top. Put the batteries in first before you try to mount the head so that incase something bad happens, the internals cannot fall or jostle anywhere. Be sure to read the instructions, as I did not, and that is why I had a hard time.
I bought this otoscope for my brother, who is in medical school overseas, who I assume did the research on what to buy that wasn't W&A. It arrived quickly in a USPS flat rate box. The plastic hardcase is nothing spectacular, but it offers great utility. Obviously, though, this thing is built cheaply. I was trying to attach the head when I inadvertently unscrewed the top by the on/off dial(something that voids any warranty). Everything, quite literally, fell apart(and this is why warranty is voided). I spent at least an hour reassembling everything and the otoscope now works, seemingly, perfectly well. I did end up with a spare very small spring which I cannot locate where to put it. Now that it is all buttoned up, though, it seems pretty solid. But having now handled all the internal parts, and putting it all together, I do not think it will last very long. Maybe a few years. I suggest being gentle with it. Even buy more than one. They are cheap enough.
So, in conclusion:
It works great.
It is built cheaply.
Be careful with it, and you will have a great tool.
I look forward to high quality LED Fiber Optic otoscopes in the future.
Product Review: Best otoscope ever! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the best otoscope I have ever owned. This is professional quality and grade. A real pluse is having an on and off twist switch, a lifetime LED bulb, and the adjustable light source. I didn't realize how good it would be when I ordered it. The soft case holds everything together so it is not rattling around getting lost. There were adequate ear pieces with your order for normal household use. If used professionally, more can be purchased. It is the best I've ever had. I bought 2 in the past and they've broken within a year. I anticipate this will last a lifetime. Worth the money due to the quality and workmanship of the instument.
