Product Reviews of Orion Tri-Mag 1.25" 3x Barlow Lens

Product Review: Good even with my light polluted area...
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading all about barlows and problems with things washing out and dimness becoming even worse, I am pleasantly surprised. I live in a light polluted are outside of Philadelphia. Even with looking at Saturn a few degrees over my neighbor's roof, this 3x barlow made the viewing awesome! I can't wait to get out to the country this weekend and get a better view with the barlow and XT8 8" dobs I use it on.

One thing that it certainly does magnify is the perceived speed of the turning Earth. With this 3x lens in place, Saturn moved out of the eyepiece within 15-20 seconds. Not any fault of the barlow, but certainly something that is magnified by the smaller field of view.

Product Review: Great Barlow
Summary: 5 Stars

Great Lens, I love it, sharp and clear, way better than any other barlow I have seen or used.

Product Review: Works
Summary: 5 Stars

Still new to astronomy so this review may not be very helpful. I used this Barlow lens with the 10mm eyepiece that came with my scope (100mm Orion Skyscanner)which I think gave me a max magnification of 120x (very close to the usable limit of the scope I have). I was able to see the rings of Saturn and it was a pretty small image but fairly clear; think eraser head centered in a silver dollar. Because of how the Barlow works and/or the high magnification the image does not stay centered very long and without a good tripod it can become very difficult to keep the image steady and in view. I think it would be wise to invest in a tripod that is designed for telescopes before playing too much with higher magnifications if you are starting out like me. Using it on a closer target like the moon, I was able to see a lot of the craters with a fair amount of detail. The image as far as I could tell was not distorted or had any false color but as I said I am new to this... The 120x magnification with the 10mm lens pretty much filled the entire eyepiece. If you are going to use it to look at the moon I would recommend getting the moon filter as well.
