Product Reviews of Oregon Scientific PE823 Pedometer with Calorie Counter and 7-day Memory

Product Review: Do not buy this product.
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this product and it is impossible to program. You are not able to program the pedometer since the side buttons are so small and difficult to manuever. I basically threw away my money. Do not buy this product.

Product Review: Does Just What I Want It to Do
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this pedometer for several years and am finally in the market to replace it because one of the buttons failed. I wear it 100% of the time for tracking not just exercise steps but daily activity steps, and it's done a good job. The display is easy to read without removing the unit from my waistband, I get my daily figures in both numbers of steps and miles covered, setup takes only a few minutes, I can plug in my actual measured stride length rather than having the unit calculate it based on my height (an inaccurate method for both me and my husband), and there's a locking mechanism that prevents accidental resets if I'm carrying something that leans against my waist. I have a record of all my "numbers" for a full week, and that's helpful in getting a quick idea of whether or not I'm meeting my goals overall, besides eliminating the necessity of recording numbers daily. The complaints of difficulty in setting the buttons on the side of the unit were probably noted because the buttons were designed to be pressed with the fingernail, not with the fingertip, hence helping to prevent inadvertent resets if the lock wasn't on. My only "beef" about the unit is that the rubber cover on the locking button finally wore out after a few years of daily fingernail pressure, and the button fell out. I do have a leash for it, but it's rarely been needed; the spring clip stays on almost any fabric thickness just fine. Another highly rated brand of pedometer that I had before this one had a solid clip that was part and parcel of the pedometer case, and it stretched out after several months of attempting to clip it onto corded scrub-pants waistbands and finally cracked through after less than a year. One more "plus": the unit starts counting with the first step that I take, rather than ignoring the first four and picking them up if I take five or more steps. In many of my daily activities, I take only two or three steps at a time (folding clothing, for example), and I'd "lose" those steps if I had a unit that started counting only after I'd taken five steps at a time.

Product Review: Does not work
Summary: 1 Stars

You would think in this day and age with the technology we have that a devise could not fail so miserably. It is really hard to use and just does not seem to work as far as I can tell. I have given it a few days and keep going back to the instructions to see if I can get more out of them. The control buttons are really hard to use. I just wish I had done a little reading up on pedometers before I bought this one.

Product Review: Great product
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the second Oregon Scientific Pedometer that I have owned. I love the 7 day counter and all the other features. The only thing that I do not like is that the clip sometimes comes off of my pants, depending on the waist band I am wearing. Otherwise, very accurate and perfect for me! I love this Pedometer!

Product Review: Mistake
Summary: 1 Stars

Two problems I have with this unit:
. The dial is hard to read
. And the controls are hard to work.
So you probably won't be able to see it's info very well but that's ok because you probably won't have been able to set it up anyway. The salesman was so nice I felt like buying something. I'll stick with my current Acumen unit.
