Product Reviews of Omron Sprague Rappaport Stethoscope, Black

Product Review: Works great
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm not a doctor or nurse. I just needed something to help me monitor my health and the health of my family. This stethoscope was delivered on time, in great condition, at a great price and has helped us learn more about our health, blood pressure, and heartbeat.

Product Review: Works great! Heard fetal heartbeat.
Summary: 5 Stars

This stethescope works great. I am shocked at the other reviewer who said they couldn't even hear their own heartbeat - they definitely need to read the instructions because they are doing something wrong. We bought this to hear our baby's heartbeat in the womb, and we were able to. It helped that I knew where on my stomache to look, because when we finally heard it, it was VERY faint. You have to listen extremely carefully. Good luck!

Product Review: Wrong stethoscope, but still good.
Summary: 4 Stars

Ordered ten Omron Sprague Rappaport stethoscopes from BP Medical Supplies, because they were the cheapest. It scored second in this review [...], and that's why I wanted the Omron.

Received ten "Everdixie" Sprague Rappaport Stethoscopes though. I emailed the seller and asked for their take on the mixup, but only got a "I'll check it next tuesday" kinda reply, and then none, even though I reminded them.

I haven't compared it to the Omron, so I can't say if it's worse or better. But it is very good, and it does look exactly the same as the pictures of Omron Stethoscopes and comes with the exact same accessories. Possibly it's manufactured in the same factory somewhere in China...

The earplugs that are on are way too hard. Switch them for the transparent softer ones and you'll have much better acoustic coupling to your ear channel. (This is very important for even hearing anything)
I went bonanza and put on two soft rubber plugs from a pair of in-ear earplugs, it improved the coupling even more, and get very loud volumes with them.

I have compared to the Littman Classic II, and they definitely match it, if not beat it it sound quality. I hear heart sounds clearly, and even third tones and quite faint murmurs.

The big drawback is of course it's bulky design. It's heavy, and it produces some noise, partly from the rubber tubes rubbing together. (I've read that it helps to tape them together, but haven't tried.)

Build quality is good. Had some small air leakage where the tubes join the head, but it's easisly fixed with a bit of glue or something. Didn't really make any noticeable difference though.

Bang for the bucks is the word here. Around 7 dollars for a stethoscope that works very well for everyone, perhaps save cardiologists.

Perfect for doctors, medical students, nurses or home doctors. Perfect for anyone who has 7 dollars to spare. Or 19 even, if you order from someone else...

Product Review: You hear stuff with it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm no expert, but I am a curious nerd, so I thought it might be interesting to hear what's going on inside my chest. The sound is reasonably loud and clear enough to hear Korotkoff sounds or distinguish between the different valves of the heart (amazing what you can learn online!) From what I've read from professionals' review of this stethoscope, it compares very well to the far more expensive models (Cardiology III), but again, I'm no expert so I cant attest to this. You can get noise artifacts from the two tubes rubbing together but I haven't really run into this much.

So if you're a curious person and just want to hear what's going on inside you, the Omron Sprague Rappaport works very well. And if you're a medical expert and recently had a stethoscope go missing at work or someone "borrowed" it and you mysteriously never saw them again, this is very likely a good cheap quick buy to get you back out there saving lives or spying on your neighbors.

Note: I don't condone spying on your neighbors. Unless of course you have a good excuse like they keep stealing your newspaper or you're bored.
