Product Review: Accountability and motivation

As the title of my review, these are the two reasons I have a pedometer. Accountable because it keeps me focused on maintaining an activity level sufficient for good heart health and weight loss. Motivation because I use it to go beyond past performance, to drive myself to more challenging walking goals.
Some pedometers are only good for relative performance, to tell whether there is a difference between the activity level of one day over another. I've found this pedometer to be an accurate, informative and excellent gauge of both aerobic and normal walking. The software, although not as thorough as I'd like it to be, does make an easy to read database for performance review for the unit. It installs simply and the unit easily downloads data with the accompanying USB cable.
Highly recommended.
Addendum: This thing has been through my clothes washer TWICE, and it still works beautifully! I forgot to check clothing before putting it in the wash. Disappointed after finding it in my wet clothing, twice, I took it out, allowed it to air dry, replaced the battery of course, and amazingly found it worked just fine. This thing is THE BEST!

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software
I carried my Omron 720 for 16 months and loved it. Not to be melodramatic, but this pedomoeter helped change my life. I never went anywhere without it and it admittedly has taken a beating here and there. But wouldn't any pedometer of value? I dropped it more than once, but never got it wet or anything like that. So I'm disappointed that it has ceased to function. The time display doesn't display the left digit on minutes so I can't set the time or tell what time it is. Worse than that, it sporadically just stops counting steps. As somewhat of a fanatic on knowing my step count this was quite painful. This is NOT related to battery life; the thing has just apparently worn out. I have many friends using this same model and at least 3 have had a similar experience after roughly the same amount of time.
That said - I'm here online to order a new one. The 720 is accurate when it is working - you can't cheat it! Battery life is about 6 months which is great - though I would LOVE to see a low battery indicator becuase you don't know the battery is gone until it is TOO late. I now keep a spare battery with me at all times.
So while I expected a longer life I'll try again because the good has far outweighed the bad.

We got 2 of these about a month ago. We calibrated them easily using a measuring wheel to accurately assess distance. The units do a better job of counting steps than any other pedometers we have used. The unit comes with a holder with a built-in clip and a supplementary lanyard with a clip. I found out that I need both of them because I am pretty active and the built-in clip does not always stay attached to my pants. Be aware that pedometers are for walking. Use a Nike+ with your iPod or a Garmin when you go running. The software is pretty intuitive and the installation did not cause any problems on our computers, which are running Windows XP. If you are at least modestly computer literate, you should have no problems with it. The software is the reason why we bought these. It is much more fun and more motivating if you can see your progress (or not!). So get one and get moving. It's fun, it's cheap, and it's good for you!Product Review: Accurate and Useful

I have counted steps while wearing this device and it is very accurate. I was so surprised to find out how few steps I was taking in a day. I now can look down and if I have not done a certain number of steps in that day, I get on my elliptical (yes it still counts them fairly accurately) or I go out walking after work. It has helped. I am losing inches and weight.
