I had another Omron pedometer in which the battery stopped working after a month. I took a chance and went with this one hoping that it's more elevated and expansive features would be worth the money. So far they have been!
I love the different functions and especially appreciate sleep mode. It has kept a very accurate count of my steps today (I do about the same everyday so a shift would be noticable) and it matched the elliptical machine too (which the other Omron didn't). I have not tried it in my purse but its been fine so far in a pocket, clipped to a pocket (almost vertical to the floor) and clipped on my waistband.
I appreciated it came with a holder AND a strap with clip. This makes me feel much more secure about my investment. It was easy to set up right away. I used a dull pencil to push the button and it worked fine - because as an urban apartment dweller I just don't have a forest of "thin blunt sticks" to use to start this thing!
Edited to add: I've had this on in the car several times and it does not add any steps. I'm not sure if it's because I live in a very urban environment but I did go over railroad tracks and through potholes.

I purchased this pedometer about 6 months ago and absolutely love it. It is small enough to drop in your pocket, but also has a nice little belt clip if you don't have pockets. It also has a small strap with a clip so it doesn't fall out of your pocket or into the toilet. :-) It seems to be extremely reliable and accurate and at a reasonable price. This is an awesome product! Here's what I like best about it:
1) Small and Comfortable, as it fits into any pocket. It can also be clipped on to one's belt, if desired.
2) Accurate, no matter which direction the pedometer is facing -- even if it's bouncing around freely in a pocket.
3) Shows the time and how many minutes that one has been truly exercising. This way, you can see the difference between casual walking and your fitness time.
Disadvantages:
- For this price, I was a bit surprised to see that it doesn't transfer its stats to the computer.
- The battery life expectancy is approximately 6 months, instead of a full year.
