Product Reviews of Omron HJ-150 Hip PedometerProduct Review: If it's defective... Summary: 2 Stars
...don't expect Omron to act respectably. Mine stopped counting steps after three weeks of use. To get a replacement, you must call for a return authorization and address (this info is not in the manual), and then you learn that they demand $5 for 'shipping and handling' this 1 ounce item, which is on top of your cost to return it. At least in my case they first try to induce you to buy a new battery, telling you that it only comes with a 'trial battery,' although the manual again says no such thing and this web page says the battery should last a year. All in all, this company is sleazy, so you'd better hope that your item doesn't fail.
Product Review: If you want a good basic pedometer, this one is fine. Summary: 5 Stars
I originally bought the more expensive version of this Omicron pedometer but found that trying to measure the length of my stride, decide on calorie information, etc. and then to set the thing, was very complicated. My friends also tried and couldn't do it. I finally threw it away. I couldn't return it to Amazon because it came in plastic packaging that has to be destroyed to get the item out. I kept the battery and strap it came with. Then I bought this one, the cheapest model. It arrived with a dead battery which I replaced with the original. It only measures steps and tells the time, saving the information for a week and resetting itself at midnight for the next day. It's very simple to set and just tells me how many steps I've walked - which is all I want to know anyway. The clip seems secure but it has a little hole at the top through which I strung the strap from the other one to enable more secure attachment to the belt loops on my slacks. A narrow ribbon would do just as well. I like this item, use it every day and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get up off the couch, take a stroll and look with satisfaction at how far they have walked. 2,000 steps = approximately 1 mile. Happy walking!
Product Review: Inspiring tool! Summary: 5 Stars
I began wearing my pedometer as a challenge that St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN gave to staff and faculty - six weeks of competition to see who could have the most steps and challenged us all to walk the distance as if it would be between Northfield, MN to Florida. The longer I wore the pedometer the more exciting it became to see if I could outdo the day before. The program is completed, but now I wear it every day as part of my wardrobe ("can't leave home without it") and it's a constant reminder for me to stay active and I feel so much healthier - an added benefit! Terrific product - I especially like that it tracks seven days worth of history.
Product Review: Just what I needed Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted a pedometer that wouldn't quit working 2 weeks after I bought it, or the first time it hit the ground. Didn't want a lot of bells and whistles - just something to help me track my walking. This pedometer has done a great job. It has a sturdy clip and even though it did fall off (just once in the last month) it didn't break into pieces as two previous pedometers did. It's simple to use and tracks for 7 days which is helpful. Easy to read as well. Excellent quality, great price -- I highly recommend it.
Product Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm getting more exercise now that I have my pedometer. I set daily goals for myself and am amazed at how much walking I do. I bought this on the recommendation of my daughter, who has one too. It was a great idea!
