Product Reviews of Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket PedometerProduct Review: A lot for little money Summary: 5 Stars
As part of a university weight loss study, I was given a pedometer that stopped working after about two weeks and many drops. But the pedometer concept really helped me to gauge how much (little) I moved throughout the day. So I went online to Amazon and found the Omron HJ-112. What a find! What a bargain!
This nifty, no-frills pedometer is a workhorse. It does have a few nice extras; the HJ-112's ability to register my aerobic steps challenges me to sustain a period of movement just so I can receive "credit" for aerobic exercise. I have lost 22 pounds in three months by reducing the total amount of daily calories consumed (not the type -- still eat sweets) and MOVING MORE. The Omron HJ-112 is my new best friend, constantly monitoring my movement and encouraging me to move more when I haven't met my step count goal.
You will love this pedometer. And the string clip is a must. Although the pedometer may work itself loose, the string clip keeps the pedometer on your body. I've had the Omron HJ-112 for 3-1/2 months: I'm completely satisfied with its operation. It's a great product!
Product Review: A most excellent pedometer Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a meter reader for a power company. That's relevant because before I even started the job they told me I would be walking 5-15 miles every day. As it turns out, that's about right, which I now know thanks to this most excellent pedometer (although the 5 miles days are few and far between, hah).
I've had 2 other pedometers, both of which worked ok, but this one I am actually amazed by. I walk on sidewalks sometimes, but a lot of the time I am walking across rock yards and around all kinds of obstacles people have in their yards. Every now and then I stop walking, look at how many steps are displayed on the easy-to-read display, and count off some steps to see how it is doing. It's pretty amazing to me, but I have counted off up to 75 steps, walking over rocks, around shrubs, down the sidewalk, and up the driveway, and it doesn't seem to matter - the count is accurate.
I wear a polo-type shirt and clip the pedometer between the first and third buttons, with the display facing my skin because I have too much stuff on my belt already. I have not tried walking with it in my pocket, but one day I noticed it was counting too many steps. It turns out it was banging against my name tag - once I moved them apart, it became accurate again. So I would assume that if you carry it in your pocket, make sure thats the only thing in there.
My only complaint would be the calorie counter, which I disbelieve. It tells me that after 15 miles (about 30K steps) of walking up and down hills through yards, I have burned about 1K calories. Somehow I think it's more, but that's ok, I won't count against it. It counts my steps accurately, is easy to read and use, and thats all I wanted it out of it.
Product Review: A must buy! Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely love this pedometer! After using a much cheaper one that I bought at Walmart, I was very impressed with this one. I am very petite and it was easy to measure and input my stride length. It counts steps pretty accurately and I like that it also counts aerobic steps after 10 minutes of continuous walking. I walked over 6,000 aerobic steps in one afternoon. I also like that is resets itself at midnight and saves the previous days steps so that you can see your improvement. I've been working out all summer trying to lose the weight I've gained since going back to school and this has been extremely motivating to get me moving. If I'm close to my goal then I hop on the treadmill or march in place during commercials. Buy this if you're looking for an excellent pedometer to improve your health and motivate you to get shape!
Product Review: A packaging nightmare Summary: 1 Stars
Product arrived in a padded Amazon box, inside of which was a plastic bubble pack, that stiff kind you need a hacksaw to open. Inside of that was a stiff pasteboard box and inside of that was more plastic protection. Inside of that the product was well protected, but since the package had to be ripped to shreds to open, pieces went flying. I fianlly found the strap on the floor. I never did find the battery. I'm not sure there was one, though the manual says it's included. I even opened the battery slot(which requires a tiny phillips head srewdriver NOT included to see if maybe it was already installed. It wasn't. I would return this piece of junk but the Amazon policy says "return in original packaging, wich no longer exists. I don't know it the product works well or not. I won't until I go out and buy a battery. Which I may do. . . or I may just throw it against the wall and write off the twnety bucks.
Product Review: A pedometer that does what it is supposed to do... imagine that! Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, you want to improve your health. Everyone seems to be talking about walking as the most underrated form of aerobic exercise. There are offers by companies and health departments to give you a free or inexpensive pedometer to encourage you to walk.
Those free or inexpensive pedometers? Turn all of these offers down.
Pedometers are supposed to measure your steps. These cheap ones have exaggerated steps, undercounted steps, variable steps, and so on. They are not worth the carbon credits to manufacture.
You need something that will work. Something dependable. Something accurate.
You need an Omron HJ-112 Digital Premium Pedometer, with the safety strap and holder.
The Omron HJ-112 is easy to set up and personalize. You need to calibrate it to your stride. Then... it's off to the races you go! You get an accurate count of steps for the day. By the way, it doesn't pick up my pedaling when I bike to work. And when I jog/run (about 7 mph), it records 3 miles as 2 miles (because of my lengthened stride).
The Omron HJ-112 records number of steps, aerobic steps (walking at 1 step/sec or faster for at least 10 minutes), and calories burned (I don't really pay attention to this last category). It also gives you a 7 day memory for each category.
The holder clips to your belt or waistband, but is only partially reliable. You must use the safety strap if you don't want to lose it! I repeat... USE THE SAFETY STRAP AT ALL TIMES!
I'm told the batteries last about 6 months. I'm not there yet.
If you want an accurate and reliable pedometer, try the Omron HJ-112.
