I owned the Omron 711 (sister monitor to the one in this review) a while ago and it was powered from an A/C adapter. I purchased the 712 cuz it was less expensive--by half. Hey, the Omron design worked well, why pay twice the price--an Omron is an Omron. Upon delivery,I was surprised to discover the 712 was totally dependent on using AA batteries. I almost sent it back for a trade, but decided to try it out.
The Amazon web site did not highlight the battery power dependence. Yup, in the comparison at the bottom of the web page, it shows AA power only, but I was determined to buy an Omron because of the positive rating of Consumer Report and did not read Amazon's fine print detail.
Read the "Product Features" section on Amazon's web site (where this feature should be noted) and there is nay a word about battery dependence. This is flat out poor item description writing.
The portability of battery power is more convenient for sure. Glad I did keep it; I have used it a lot of times and it is still chugging away on the 2x AA batteries.
I have compared my portable home monitor versus my doctor's office BP monitor and they are very close in readings.
Pros of convenience and accuracy and no con yet.
