The unit performs well, but rechargeable NiMH batteries will only power it for a few readings. With that experience, I have not tried using regular alkaline batteries (because of the potential expense). Of course, the included AC adapter solves this minor problem.Product Review: Better than Expected.

The Omron HEM-711AC is better than I expected in that 1) it proved to
be easy to understand and use and 2) the blood pressure readings have been
consistent with those taken in my doctor's office. In short, I have
confidence that I am getting good data from this machine!

This monitor works well. I particularly like the feature that averages the last 3 pressures. I ordered one for my son in another state shortly after I ordered mine. This is a wonderful product for the home user! The fact that it's "automatic" takes the guesswork out of the equation. We purchased the Extra Large Cuff as well thinking that it would be needed, but the cuff that comes with the unit is very generous, so it really wasn't necessary. We love that the unit is "portable" and can be operated with either batteries or plugged in. The quality of the Omron Unit is also evident in the construction...very sturdy and yet lightweight.
