Product Reviews of Omron HEM-650 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with APS (Advanced Positioning Sensor)

Product Review: Amazon a Truly Remarkable Company
Summary: 5 Stars

I recieved my new unit in Novemeber of 2006. My last unit a upper arm Wallgeen brand, was very incorrect and showed extremely high readings. I tested that unit with my doctor and my unit showed 204/120 when actually was 140/90. So far I am very happy with this unit, though everything I have read says not to go with a wrist bp monitoring, as I have diabetes and hypertension. I enjoy the ease of this unit and so far accuracy wise, it seems in line with my doctors office. A little pricey but so far seems worth it. My Wallgreen unit was camparably priced with the Omron, but if it does not give accurate results it is worthless.

Almost a year now and my unit works perfectly. Readings are right on with my doctors office. Recommended my sister in law to purchase this same model. She has been very delighted with hers and Amazon delivered ahead of projected delivery date.

*New update ! After just over a year this monitor will no longer function

I contacted Omron customer service and just got a prepared response of activities I already tried. I was directed to send in to a repair facility at my shipping cost both there and back with possible charges for repairing.

This Omron customer service is unacceptable. I regret giving this purchase a excellant rating in my prior review. I even recommended to family to purchase which they bought 2 of these, theirs are still working but under a year old.

Amazon.com is truly a remarkable company. While Omron just blew me off as I pleaded for their help, Amazon who had no obligation came thru and replaced my defective unit. This was over a year from my purchase. Now that is a company you want to do business with for the long term. Amazon.com " Thank You "

Product Review: Apparently Accurate - relatively easy to use
Summary: 4 Stars

I have taken this to my doctor's office and taken my blood pressure just minutes before he took it manually. The reading was within a point or two on each side which he stated was a normal variation.

I have found the unit easy to use, but sometimes getting my arm in the correct position takes a little trial and error. One thing that seemed odd at first was that the unit just counts up and does not measure the blood pressure going down using the slow release system that traditional units do.

On an overall basis, I find this much easier to use and quicker then the upper arm band, electonic monitor based unit I used previously.

Product Review: As Advertised
Summary: 4 Stars

I am extremely pleased with this product at this time. It works as advertised and seems to be accurate. It took a little experimentation to get use to how it works, but it only took a few times to get it right. I did buy it to use while walking. Although it is ok for that purpose, if you are a fast walker and sweat much it probably will take a beating. I have not had it long enough to determine its durability, but it appears to be quality made.

Product Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

This item is a lot better than the previous omron that I have. No guessing on how high or how low I should position my wrist to my chest. This one gives me an accurate reading so far.

Product Review: Awful product does not work for me
Summary: 1 Stars

I have been a medical professional for many years in the past. I know how to take pressure. I have had an Omron self BP cuff for about 7 years and it just got tuckered out and not doing its job any more so I decided to try a wrist model since I have trouble with my right hand and it is hard to pump the bulb to get the blood pressure.
This thing did not work for me at all, I must have gotten a bad one. At first it was giving me a wonderful reading of about 140/72, I wish, I normally can't get below 150/80, I was 158/88 last week at the Doctors office.
This morning when pressure is usually high this machine registered 63/44
I am dead and don't know it yet. If you buy this make sure you can take it back, I bought it at a local CVS drug store, it cost more but now I don't have to waste time and money on shipping it back. Make sure you can test it first. I am going back to the manual unit. This is not a product you want to fool with, it literally can mean your life.
