Product Reviews of Omron HEM-637 Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with Advanced Positioning SensorProduct Review: A Very Advanced Blood Pressure Monitor! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this meter because the [A&D] one that I have had for 5 years is falling apart. I read the owner's manual last night, made all the settings, and was surprised at HOW EASY it is to use! Taking blood pressure can only be done [ONE] way. Unless you are in the prescribed position, it won't work. It maintains a history of previous readings and will display this information in GRAPH form. This is valuable for persons like me with hypertension! I gave it 4 stars because it takes AAA batteries instead of AA batteries and is made in CHINA.
Product Review: Accurate Wrist BP Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
I compared it to the best rated the WalMart brand ReliOn brand It matched the readings within a 1 to 2 points. I made sure that my ReliOn was accurate using a stethoscope and also by comparing with a manual unit many times.
HEM-637 is quiter and much smaller than the ReliOn. One feature I like is that it does not start unless held in the correct poisition. The key is to hold the hand steady, not move, or talk. To hold the arm steady, rest the plam just below the opposite shoulder. Also, make sure that the wrist does not touch the chest to avoid getting erroneous reading.
It is, however, $30 more expensive than the ReliOn. Consider purchasing it if you are a traveller or have uncontrolled BP. It will allow you to track BP under various stress conditions (work) without being noticed.
It stores 99 readings with date and time making recoredkeeping easy. The lack of PC software is not an issue for me. I find manual recordkeeping is faster and quite adequate.
Product Review: Accurate, reliable, convenient Summary: 5 Stars
I am a home health RN recently liberated from hospital practice. As such I am used to a variety
of gadgets, but electronic BP machines in hospitals still require arm cuffs. Because people come
in all sizes, so must the BP cuffs to obtain accurate measurements. In home health it's
cumbersome to lug around equipment, so I researched wrist cuffs and settled on the
Omron Model 637. Dubious of this new gadget, I continued my research at patient's homes for
3 months, first measuring an arm cuff pressure, waiting a few minutes, and then taking a
wrist pressure with the Omron device. The results of my little research project convinced me
of the accuracy and convenience of this product.
I take blood pressures on a variety of arm sizes. I can now leave the large and small adult
arm cuffs in my car trunk, just in case. In 2 years, I hadn't needed them until recently. A few
weeks ago, thieves broke into my car trunk, and stole my nursing bag which contained the
Omron cuff. And here I am, buying another one just as fast as I can. Stay away from the
drug store models; I tried them briefly and they don't compare in reliability.
P.S. Thank you to my patients who allowed me to test this product. Many of my patients are
delighted with this product calling it "cool, " "nifty," etc., and call their family members to
take a look. Many have since bought this Omron HEM-637.
Product Review: Average ability with some people Summary: 4 Stars
This product is not always working as it advises. Some people can't get a reading for some reason. It seems that something isn't quite right. But, otherwise it is a good product. It seems accurate as well.
Product Review: BP Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
This product is great. I researched quite a few others before I bought this one. It is the best rated - and used by a lot of medical facilities. It's very easy to use and I got a great price off Amazon. One of the people I work with had just bought a Walgreen's brand wrist monitor and paid the same I did for this one. This one has the positioning sensor, which assures you are getting accurate readings. LOVE IT
