Product Reviews of Omron Body Fat Monitor and ScaleProduct Review: Good consistent readings Summary: 4 Stars
I've had the scale for a few days and so far I'm pretty happy with it. My old scale would read +/- 5 pounds just getting off and back on a few seconds later. It was very frustrating trying to figure out what my real weight was. With the Omron scale, the weight readings are within a few tenths of each other.
It's fairly easy to use once you've gone through the manual once. One thing I don't like is that you forget to hit the appropriate profile button before stepping on the scale, there's no way to get to the "body composition" mode unless you turn it off and back on and then hit the profile button at the right time. This isn't really a big deal, it just wastes a little time.
One other annoyance is that the scale holds around 90 days of data, but you can only retrieve the data from 1, 7, 30, or 90 days prior. So even though it may have data for days 2-6, 8-29, etc., there is no way to see them (at least not without waiting until the day you want to see fits the 1/7/30/90 window from the current date).
One thing that would be nice is if the scale would display your current heart rate. It doesn't claim to do this so I don't consider the lack of this feature a knock against the product, it just seems like this would fit in well with the other features this scale has since your resting heart rate is an important variable in various fitness-related formulas.
Product Review: Good idea, but needs tweaking. Summary: 4 Stars
It's rare to get the same readings twice in a row. It's a clever scale and I use it, but I can step on it, look at the numbers, step off and then try again. The next time the numbers are slightly different. I find myself trying it multiple times until I get two similar readings.
Product Review: Good monitor Summary: 4 Stars
I actually traded in my WiiFit to buy this product.
The weight is very accurate, however the bodyfat and skeletal muslce measurement have a fairly large degree of error. This is due to the fact that your are supposed to hold you arms out at 90 degrees with bent arms -- however how much you bend your arms changes the reading by several %. Given that most scales with body fat measurements do not even give you measurements for skeletal muscle, a rating for mid-section fat, and a resting metabolism, this complaint is rather minor.
In the defence of the measurements, if you can be consistant about the angle of your arms this should be a non-issue. Combined with the fact that the hand-sensor is supposed to eliminate error caused by shifting water-weight throughout the day, I imagine this scale is as accurate as they come. I recommend it for measurements +- 3%, especially for people in workout programs -- everyone should know that building muscle can actually INCREASE your BMI but decrease your body fat, which is much more important.
Product Review: Good scale Summary: 5 Stars
I really like this scale. I do not use the body fat functions. I use it for measuring my weight only. It is a nice, light, dependable, electronic scale. The numbers are easy to read without glasses. The only feature I would like to see is a lighted display.
Product Review: Good scale Summary: 4 Stars
This is a good scale if you like to know your body fat percentage. It also stores past results in memory so you can compare but the scale gets a little confusing and you have to turn off and on a lot to reset. Otherwise it is very good and I would buy it again.
