Product Reviews of Omron Body Fat Monitor and ScaleProduct Review: Consistent readings, 2 years later Summary: 5 Stars
We have had this scale for two years. Both the body fat and weight readings are consistent.
The weight reading appears to be accurate within one pound of the scales at the gym so I just use this scale as my reference. I'm not sure if the fat percentage reading is accurate but it does not appear to change randomly so it seems to provide a good reference for changes in fat percentage.
The scale has lasted through two battery changes and been kicked around sufficiently in several bathrooms.
Product Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
There must be a lot of product quality issues for this scale to evoke such a love/hate response among reviewers. I also found the scale to be neither consistent or accurate. Each step on the scale comes up with a different weight measurement, none of them matching the scale at the doctors office. The fat measurements also bounced around and were at least 5 % higher than the number from the fitness trainer. I carefully followed the directions that came with the scale to produce the most accurate results- all except the disclaimer that the fat measurements may not be accurate for a post-menopausal woman. The assumptions programmed into the scale must be wrong for a lot of people! Fortunately the HoMedics version of the scale works for me.
Product Review: Ditto: Not for athletically fit people Summary: 2 Stars
I have owned this scale and used it each and every morning under the same circumstances for more than a year now. I have held off writing a review because I wanted to be sure of my opinion based on personal experience. Here it is: The weight scale is consistent with itself. That's all anyone needs is consistency, whether it be plus or minus a .10 or more from another scale. Stick with one scale day to day and you can't go wrong. But the other readings: The Body Fat, the Visceral Fat, the Skeletal Muscle, are crazy wrong for someone who works out six times a week and is athletic, like me. I started out a little over a year ago forty-eight pounds heavier than I am right now. Since I kept a journal each day of all the measurements from the Omron scale, I can say that it is wrong, crazy wrong. During the year I have been in training, working with a trainer and slowly changing my diet, I have gone from obese to slim, trim and have muscles that give me that "ripped" look. But the Omron scale will have none of it. The above mentioned readings have changed only slightly from my starting point, by no more than 2 or 3 percent at best, while my total body weight has dropped roughly 21 percent. I can't believe the body measurements of this scale are anywhere near accurate. I've gone down four pants waist sizes. Where I had a beer gut, I now can look straight down and see my belt buckle without having to suck in. You can see my ribs! I've packed on solid muscle everywhere it is supposed to be: upper and lower body. So this scale is a joke for all but one thing: Giving you your body weight. I'm disappointed I spent the money on it.
Product Review: Doesn't perform as advertised Summary: 1 Stars
Simply put, this scale is supposed to monitor body fat percentage. As other reviewers have advertised, it is not accurate in this regard. It routinely gives errors of up to 10%. There is a big difference between 10& body fat and 20% body fat. The scale should not be sold as a body monitoring scale if it cannot be used for that function.
Product Review: Easy to use and to the point. Summary: 4 Stars
Like this review, the Omron Body Fat Monitor and Scale is simple to set up, easy to use, and accurate. I use it to monitor my weight and body fat, and don't have to worry about my settings getting changed because Boyfriend set his own profile on the machine - and it only took a few moments.
It's a good scale and monitor. I recommend it.
