Product Reviews of Nicorette Lozenges , 4 mg, 72-Count (Mint)

Product Review: Worked Great
Summary: 5 Stars

I smoked two packs a day and had done so for the last 30 years. I used the 4 mg. lozenges and quit in one week. That was 5 months ago. I have no cravings now at all. I only had to use 3 or 4 lozenges a day. They take the craving away very quickly.

Product Review: Worked temporarily but couldn't quit the lozenges!
Summary: 3 Stars

I used these to quit smoking successfully for a while, but then couldn't get off of the lozenges. I ended up starting smoking again because I was throwing more money at lozenges than cigarettes, with no end in sight. I constantly craved them and kept popping more and more.

I've done patches previously and they worked pretty well (I started about a year later out of my own stupidity). The thing I like about them is that it is totally controlled. Cravings might be a little tougher during stressful moments, but you don't have the temptation of taking more or having to regulate it yourself. Stick one on in the morning and that's it. No grabbing for more or looking at the clock in anticipation of the next fix.

Normally I would say pick the product that YOU control (rather than it being controlled for you), but I don't think anyone buying nicotine cessation products has the control they need anyway. Otherwise you could just quit smoking without the help.

Trust me, you probably want the ease of sticking it on in the morning and forgetting about it.

Product Review: Works better than all other NRTs
Summary: 5 Stars

Like DougNJ I was a long term smoker - but smoking mini cigars, so you can imagine what my nicotine addiction was like - nothing like a cigar when you wake up. I tried the patches (too much or too little buzz, and that patch burn!) and then several times around with the gum (your jaw gets awful tired after a few days ). While those products work for some smokers, they just didn't help me in those clutch situations like a few drinks in a bar or morning coffee.

But these babys work in all weather. The good thing about the lozenges is that they deliver an easily controlled dose over the 20-30mins and have a nice tingle, which you really had to work at with the gum. Unlike some I didn't get any heartburn even when I chewed the last fragment of the tablet. Not that I'd recommend that for that last jolt. Didnt find any problems with having one after a meal also but perhaps lesser addicts might want to follow the instructions.

If you are really determined to quit but have a strong compulsion to smoke going, give these lozenges a try rather than the alternatives. 12 weeks and counting now..

Product Review: Works great
Summary: 4 Stars

I love love love smoking and hated to quit. I have four daughters, however, and am starting to look like the ultimate white trash in the parking lot at soccer games. I have quit before, one time for about a year and a half, but I resumed because I hoped that it would help me lose some of the weight I put on as a result. My shallowness would always win out over any hope of being a good example or a healthier person. Don't get me wrong, I still miss it like a boyfriend, it was just time. I love the lozenges. They work great for me. The last time, I was pregnant and used the patch. I was completely weaned off of them in about 3 weeks, but had wierd side effects and still craved cigarettes like crazy the first month. The nice thing about the lozenges is that they curb those cravings very quickly. Here are my tips for quitting and if I can do it, ANYONE can!!

1: If you use the patch only, mark down on a piece of paper on the fridge how many times you have a craving and watch the progress as those cravings slowly subside. It is a very helpful motivator, as the cravings still come, but you realize that they get much more manageable and after a few weeks you only have a few "moments" a day. This is how I quit completely the first time. I had about 500 marks the first day, but it was great to watch it go down to about 4 marks after a month. I also avoid triggers this week, like other smokers and the area outside where I like to smoke.
2: The second time I quit, I used the 4 mg dose lozenges the first week and then switched to the low dose patch and combined them with low dose (2mg) lozenges as needed the second week.
The third and fourth and fifth week, I am on lozenges as needed. I just buy what's on sale, and am down to only a couple a day. I just bought the higher dose for the same price and only suck on them until an urge subsides, then set it aside until the next urge. I have made this box of 72 last at least three weeks. I plan on switching next week to the lowest dose patch only because the lozenges are addictive, but they sure do work.

Lozenge pros: They definitely help your mouth do something, unlike the patch. You don't eat constantly with them and thereby don't get the incredible weight gain that sometimes happens otherwise. They work quickly. They don't make your jaw sore as the frantic chewing of the nicotine gum can. They really work better than any other method, and I've tried them all! No wierd nightmares at night like the patch and you get that "hit" in the morning or with coffee.
Lozenge cons: Terrible gas, as stated by other reviews. I get the hiccups with them, almost every time, I don't know why, drives me batty! Taste pretty gross (still better than the gum). Last a looonggg time, much longer than stated, more like over an hour. Difficult to eat or drink anything with them, but this could be a pro also.

I hope this helps someone to quit. If anyone needs anymore tips, feel free to ask me. I would love to help someone quit. You really do feel better afterwords, and I loved being a smoker. If it weren't harmful, I would be right back at it. If I can do it, anyone can!

Product Review: Works, but you have to be ready to quit
Summary: 4 Stars

As my title shows, you have to be ready to quit smoking. I find that it helps me fight off the urge when I am around cigarettes, helps me stay focused without the thought of having one, and causes me not to be phased by the smell of cigarette smoke (we know how that feels.) I do not use these according to the guidelines, but rather when I feel I will be in stressful situations (such as work) or when I am surrounded by smokers (such as being at bar or around friends/coworkers who smoke). If you are ready to quit this is a great suppressent, but if you are not mentally ready, you will have a hard time even with these.
