Product Review: Can't live without it!

I'll be honest-when I first saw a Neti Pot I laughed. I thought to myself; "this is the most ridiculous product I've ever seen. I'd never use this." I now sheepishly retract my statement..because I am now in love with Neti Pots.
I unfortunately have frequent sinus problems. Usually I just get sinus headaches and some minor congestion, and occasionally a sinus infection. With that said, a few weeks ago I developed a pretty strong cold. I doubled up on the vitamin c, the zinc, took in lots of fluids and tried to rest. It went away within about a week, but it brought on a TERRIBLE sinus infection. One of the worst I've ever had in fact. I had intense congestion, and so much pain in my forehead, cheeks and teeth. It felt like a vice was squeezing my entire head, I was in a lot of pain. I tried sinus medications, cold medications, nothing helped. I was in so much misery and I'll be honest, I'm stubborn so I didn't go to the doctor. For some reason the Neti Pot idea popped into my head and I was desperate so I drove to CVS one morning to pick one up. I came across the NeilMed Nasaflo which was the only Neti Pot there, so I purchased it and crossed my fingers.
I came back home and was a bit apprehensive to use this thing. Was I going to choke on the water? Was I going to feel like I was drowning? At this point I didn't care, I just wanted relief. I prepared the solution with the distilled water (had to warm it a bit in the microwave since it was cold), and followed the instructions in the manual. I was instantly surprised. This is so easy! The solution poured out of my nostril with ease and I didn't feel any discomfort, it felt soothing and natural. All sorts of gross stuff came out of my nose when I blew it out as per the instructions. I could breathe! I was instantly convinced I needed to continue to use this product.
About 5 days later with continuous use (x2 a day) my infection was gone. During this time the Neti Pot provided me with congestion relief and it cleared out all that nasty stuff that blowing your nose just can't get out. I have a few tips though for first time users:
If you're VERY congested and you can't breathe through your nose at all, you might need to pour some solution in, stop and blow it out of your nose, start again, stop and blow your nose, etc...in order to start clearing yourself out. Don't be discouraged though-keep at it and if it doesn't provide instant relief the first time-try it again later in the day.
When using the Neti Pot, don't tilt your head back otherwise you'll feel the solution go into the back of your throat. Not a big deal, but not comfortable. Tilt sideways and more forward.
If you have a sinus infection/cold, and you start using this and then feel better within a few days I suggest to keep using it anyways at least for a week after you feel better if not daily. I made the mistake of feeling better, then instantly stopping the use of the Neti Pot. What a mistsake-my infection came back 2 days later! This isn't an instant cure-all, but it will lessen the severity and length of your sinus problems, colds, etc. if you keep using it.

Recently bought this for a bad case of flu. I was pretty congested in one nostril when I first used it so the water went to my throat instead. It did not clear my sinus the first time around. However, it loosened up whatever it was inside and my sinus got clearer and clearer with more uses. Just make sure you use cooled to lukewarm boiled water or distilled water or it's going to end up stinging your sinuses.Product Review: Did not work

I had high hopes for this product as I was hearing so much positive information from friends and family. When I tried it the water just ran through and gave no relief of any kind. I realize that was what was supposed to happen but, even blowing my nose after provided no positive change. After using a whole pot full of the pre-mixed solution I was no better than I was before. My biggest fear in ordering this item was not whether or not it would work but rather would I find it too uncomfortable to use. I hate getting water in my nose at the pool and that is what I imagined this to be like. The good news I had no discomfiture at all. It is pleasant to use.
Also, as others have pointed out it comes with a coupon for a free Neilmed Sinus Rinse bottle for those who want something a little more powerful.
Product Review: Few Minor Problems

Much has been said about this product. In order to help you decide which neti pot to buy, here are a few minor problems I found that bug me a bit:
1) Top doesn't screw on well so when you shake it up water comes up.
2) It's opaque so you can't tell when you've used half the stuff
3) Since it uses gravity, there's more force clearing out the first nostril than the second.
4) Hole in the top for airflow is a bit small; easily fixed by making it slightly larger.
Despite the few complaints I have, this product was inexpensive and does exactly what it claims to.
I like this product but will probably try one of the devices that actually forces the liquid through my nose. Friends have said that they work quite a bit better.
