Hopefully, we wouldn't need to use it often. We tried it out on each other and our 2yr old. You can see all the ear wax, etc. I guess if there was an ear infection, you would see some redness, etc. Worth the price for peace of mind...Product Review: Not a fan of the speculum

This otoscope is great for looking in children's and adult's ears. However, I purchased it to look in my infant's ears and found a problem with the speculum. Even though the opening for the smallest one is 2mm, the speculum is made of very thick plastice so you can't insert it far enough into the ear canal to see the tympanic membrane. It is just too big for baby's little canal. Other than that, this is a great product.Product Review: Not for small children

IT'S WORTH THE EXTRA PRICE, THAN THE SMALLER PLASTIC PRODUCTS THAT ARE ON THE MARKET. THIS OTOSCOPE IS EASER TO HANDLE BECAUSE OF THE SIZE AND IT IS ALL MEDAL.Product Review: Otoscope

This is an awesome otoscope. Very bright, very clear image. Quite heavy with the batteries in. Much better quality than the old plastic one that I had. Wish it had come with a book to show normal and infected ears. My old one did, but lost the book a long time ago.
