Product Review: Great concept, poor execution

I know it is just a measuring tape, but when you are losing weight, you really want/need an accurate body measurement. With most measuring tapes accuracy is fully dependent upon the user, but not so with this little gem. Unfortunately it seems to have preset intervals at which the scroll mechanism will stop - about every inch or so. So getting an accurate measurement is very difficult. This is such a great design - if more money was put into the production it would be a very handy little item. I definitely would not purchase again.

I am not sure if this varies between each unit but the myotape measure for me, does not start at 0, the number starts at 2inches at the beginning of the tape. So every-time I measure I always have to subtract 2, which is kind of annoying. Everything else is great, the pin though, I wish did hold itself a little better. The pin comes in handy when your measuring by yourself but sometimes it pops out when your really trying to get a perfect measurement. Other than those 2 flaws, its perfect.

One challenge we have when we lose weight is that sometimes it might look like we've hit a plateau. Really, this usually means the body is slimming down but as we convert from fat to muscle we aren't "loosing weight" at the moment. A tape measure can help show this!

I've used several different kinds of tape measures in the past. Usually the problem is you're trying to hold the two ends of the tape measure in place while figuring out what they say. Often I have to call in my boyfriend to help out. For a variety of reasons there are many people who cannot or do not want help in this area :)

That's where the MyoTape tape measure comes in. I actually got this for myself solely because I had lost my old tape measures and needed one, and it was the top result on Amazon and looked easy to use. So I wasn't out seeking a "new and improved" tape measure. That being said, when I got this in the house I was really impressed that it WAS much easier to use than my previous ones.

You hold the handle, which is nice and solid and well shaped to grab onto. Then if you want you can "make the loop" and step into it, or pull the loose end around, depending on what part of you you are measuring. But the nice thing is you can keep everything loose while you get it into place.

Once you are close to where you want it to be, you push the button on the unit and it automatically snugs up. So you don't have to try to hold it in a certain spot or try to make sure you're holding it "tightly enough" or "loose enough". It always snugs up to the same level of tension. You only need to hold with one hand because the unit has connected into its closed loop. This means it's VERY easy to then look at the numbers and see what the total measurement is. You don't have to add or subtract - the unit is set up so that the number you see is the total number.

Well recommended! There are ALL sorts of situations where you "seem to be not losing weight" but really your body is getting slimmer. This is a great way to keep track of your progress!

Product Review: Great inexpensive and accurate tool!

I purchased the MyoTape Body Tape Measure to keep track of body measurements as we changed our family's diet to an organic whole foods diet. I find this tool much easier to use than a sewing-kit type measuring tape, which can allow for pulling the tape to loosely or too tightly or unevenly. In contrast, the MyoTape makes a loop around the body part and then a simple push of the button, automatically retracts and snugs the tape to measure more accurately. After measuring, the plastic tape-end comes out of the holder to undo the loop while the device holds the tape at the measured length (so you can jot down your measurements). You then just push the button again to release and retract the tape fully. I like that you don't need a partner to help you measure accurately so you can do it at any time, very easily and efficiently. This is an inexpensive, reasonably sturdy, and accurate tool. I am pleased with my purchase.
