Product Reviews of Muvi Micro DV CamcorderProduct Review: Unbeatable! Summary: 5 Stars
Got this a little cheaper from a different vendor. It is AMAZING. It comes in a box a little larger than our old DV camcorder. Then you open it, and realize how astoundingly teeny tiny it is. But it's solid - as solid as if it were just a battery.
Appearance
Straight black, 4 small metal screws hold the all-metal case together. Right side has slot for flash card and the voice-activated recording swtich. The left side has the on/off switch. Bottom is the USB connection. Top has the record/stop button, indicator LED and the lanyard connector. Lens is on the front. It comes with a little protective plastic over the lens Be sure to remove that.
Accessories
USB - MiniB cable
USB- MiniB adapter (much smaller, same connectors but no wires)
Driver CD
Carrying case
Clip mount
Detachable lanyard
Usability
Instantly usable. I did not turn it on right out of the box, I let it charge off the netbook for an hour or so. Then I disconnected it, turned on the on switch, saw that the indicator LED was blue. I pressed the record/stop button and the LED started flashing green. I recorded a minute clip, pressed the record/srtop button, plugged the unit into the netbook. The netbook instantly recognized device. I navigated to the DCIM folder, double-clicked the file, and it played. Just like that. Amazing. I've had to use firewire connections for video cameras before, the card makes it so much easier!
Performance
The camera does auto-exposure compensation on the fly. My first clip was relatively dark. The second clip was in much better lighting. In both cases, quality was similar to a high-end 5 year-old DVC camcorder.
Overall:
Best money I've ever spent for electronics. Small enough to mount in my remote controlled airplane, tough enough for the kids to use, small enough to use anywere easily, tough enough that I'm not scared for it, cheap enough that I won't cry if it breaks. This is an amazing buy.
