Product Reviews of Merkur-Razor Double Edge Razor BladesProduct Review: Occam's Merkur Razor Summary: 5 Stars
Do you find yourself forced to choose between buying decent razor blades or putting a down payment on a home? Isn't it interesting that big ticket items such as home computers and digital cameras continue to drop in price, making them available to everyone at a reasonable cost, while all the 'Shaving Systems' and attendant accoutrements continue to skyrocket into the stratosphere? Gillete's Mach 3 blades are sold on Amazon in packs of 8 ($17.99) and in packs of 12 ($28.99.) The Schick Quattro blades are also available, package of 8, for $21.99. Twenty to thirty bucks for a pack of razor blades? Have you people taken leave of your senses? I don't care how many new blades you add; the flashy colors and tacky gimmicks fail to impress me any longer. The Shaving Barons have ripped me off for long enough!
These blades offer a very comfortable shave for a fraction of the price. Making the switch to an old school double edged razor kit may seem prohibitively expensive at first, but in the long run you'll save a bundle. If you're up 15 to 20 bucks every time you buy new blades the switch will pay for itself in under a year, clearing up lots of extra cash for interesting stuff like books or CDs. The best choice seems pretty self-evident to this reviewer.
I would like to add that Merkur makes exceptionally fine razors as well as blades. If you are contemplating taking the plunge I recommend checking out their product line further.
Product Review: Ok for beginner shavers... Summary: 3 Stars
This was my first set of razor blades. I have sensitive skin and they caused me irritation if I went against the grain or they would pull the hairs leaving little blood dots. The blades also have to be switched every few (2-5) shaves. I switched to sharper Feather blades and problems went away, they also last longer (5-10) shaves.
Product Review: One of the best shaves I've ever had Summary: 4 Stars
I was a bit apprehensive about using a DE razor at first but I have to say I was surprised by what a great shave I get with these razors. I have to admit, I haven't yet tried other brands such as Feather or Derby (I've recently ordered a sample pack.) but I am pleased so far with Merkur.
One of the downsides for me personally, and I can't really blame this on Merkur alone, is that I can't shave against the grain with a DE razor which means I have to shave more often. With that said, I think its done my skin good for the long run.
Product Review: Pretty Good Summary: 4 Stars
These work great as a starter blade. I used them after purchasing the long handled merkur safety razor. I am eager to try the fearther blades after this pack runs out. I have a thick beard and once I get the full technique down I think it will be time to move on. Still great blades, but I have a thick jungle of a beard, so any pull slows me down and stops my movement.
Product Review: Put down those multi-blade cartridges Summary: 5 Stars
Once you try a safety razor shave with a quality shave cream or gel, you'll never go back to those overpriced cartridge razors. Try these blades with the Merkur heavy duty razor.
