This razor works really well. It's well made, moderately aggressive, good for a beginner, and has a nice heft to it. I find it works best with Feather blades, but your mileage may vary. I have large hands and the long handle makes it easy to hold. The grip works well. I've always had a secure grip even when wet or slippery. It fits in the Colonel Conk Evernice Model 775 Chrome Safety Razor Stand with no problems. I was worried about this when I got the stand because of the long handle, but it fits very well.Product Review: Worth every penny.....a GREAT BUY!!!!

As a "newbie" to wet shaving.....I was amazed at all the choices of DE razors on the market these days. After doing much research.....and reading a lot of reviews.....I settled on the Merkur 38C. Its a high quality razor which feels just right for a guy with huge hands.
If your thinking of learning to shave like our Dads & Grandfathers did......this is a good razor to start with and get some experience. It might be a little too aggressive for some......so maybe an adjustabe would be a better choice depending on your beard. It has great balance with an extra long handle and just the right amount of weight.....which is not too heavy.....but balanced well in my opinion......and it looks absolutely awesome.
The price I paid here at Amazon was the just about the best offered anywhere.....give or take a dollar or two at most.

Start out with a "calmer blade" such as Dorco before trying a sharper brand like Feather.....which I find to be excellent.....and just go slow without ANY PRESSURE......let the weight of the head do all the work. In no time at all you'll experience the most absolutely wonderful shaves you have ever had in your entire life!!!!

OK, why would people ever have moved to cartridge razors when this kind of shaving goodness existed all along?? This is my first DE razor and I am loving it so far. Beyond the satisfaction of shaving with a sturdy piece of metal that feels like it will last for hundreds of years, the shave is far superior when compared to cartridge razors. I get a much closer shave, my razor bumps had disappeared, and in the long run shaving will be MUCH cheaper. I don't have anything bad to say about this razor. Totally worth the higher price up front and I will never again go back to shaving with overpriced plastic toys.Product Review: a great razor

I've never used a DE razor before but decided to make the switch when my current batch of replacement Mach 3 blades was close to running out. This razor is really easy to user and after watching some instructional videos I had no problem picking up basic wetshaving technique.
The angle on the blade is just right for a close shave and even when I cut myself starting out it was never as bad as a disposable razor cut. The body of the razor is very solid and easy to hold. The weight is good and it feels like a product that will last me for years. It's way more fun to shave now and it's much smoother afterwards. Took some adjustment but after about two weeks I had no more issues.
