Product Review: Fantastic and weighty

I love this safety razor. It's nice and heavy, cleans easy and shaves great. I bought a Parker piece of junk before this and boy was that a mistake. Accept no substitutes. The only fault I can give this razor is that when it's wet, the grip isn't all that great to hold on to; but it's a small complaint for an otherwise great razor. It unscrews to 2 pieces and is super easy to change blades. A couple of tips to keep it tip top: when you're done shaving, unscrew it a little and rinse it, that will make sure to get all the stubble out of the head. Another great tip (thank you [...]) is to keep the head submerged in mineral oil (which can be found at target or other stores I would guess) which will keep the water out of it and make the blades last significantly longer and prevent any possibility of rusting. Product Review: Great DE even for a first timer

This is my first DE razor and I couldn't be happier with it. This long handle razor is very heavy, giving it an extremely high quality feel to match it's beautiful look. The chrome finish is flawless and the styling is wonderfully classic. Yes, you can get a Progress or a Futur for the same price but part of what attracted me to DE shaving, besides saving a bunch of money on blades, was the idea of using an old world style instrument in my daily routine and the neither the Progress nor the Futur give me the warm fuzzies like the 38C does. That's a very subjective thing I understand but if you would prefer a vintage 50s Ferrari to a modern supercar model then you and I are on the same page.
Functionally, the long handle is closer to my old Sensor razor than the standard HD allowing me to hold it in a similar fashion and reduce the amount of awkwardness I have to work through as I learn this new (old) method of shaving. The heft of the razor is enough that you can get a close shave without applying any pressure on the shave head. This gives a comfortable shave without the nicks and burn that I always seem to get no matter how careful I am with my cartridge razor. I'm no genius and not particularly coordinated yet I've been able to get a good shave with this from day one with no cuts or discomfort.
Classic styling, solid construction and proper function are the three things that make this an outstanding choice. I don't think you can go wrong with the 38C.

Love this razor. I have an older Merkur "short handle" razor that I've used for years and when I saw the longer "Barber Pole" handle deceided to replace it. The longer handle makes it easier to hold and get a great shave. Easy to clean, the blade never clogs. A well built, solid razor that will last for many years.
I'd also recommend the Wilkinson Sword razor blades. Haven't been able to buy them in the states for years over the counter but Amazon has them. My father got me using those when I was in my twenties and we were both disappointed when we couldn't get them locally anymore. I ordered 50 of them when I ordered the razor and gave some to Dad. He was real happy. They only have the "Classic" but if you can find the "Premium" they are even better. When combined with the Merkur razor, there is no better shave.
