Product Review: Don't beleive the hype

Not happy. After 2 uses, I don't see how on earth this DE razor is better than a mach 3 or a fushion. Takes TRIPLE the amount of time to shave, and even when you go against the grain it STILL DOESNT GET ALL MY HAIRS. maybe the merkur blade that comes with it is duller than other blades? doubt it.. I dont think im using it wrong either because ive watched several videos on how to "wet shave".. It will cut up your face in no time.. I had an open mind going in to this "DE Expierience" but I digress... not for sensitive skin! imo, theres a reason DE razors are a thing of the past.. dont believe the hypeProduct Review: Eco Earth Friedly Shave At Its Best!

The main reason I bought this razor was I was mad at Gillette always making a new razor that is the best, and the animal testing that they do. Back to the Merkur Hd Classic Safety Razor. I got it today I shaved with it and it was a awesome shave. It is Eco friendly and you can get DE blades from 2-5 dollars a 10 pack. You can hear the beard being cut as you shave. It gives a very Close, Classic shave. I really like it. I did not get cut and I did not have to go over the and over to get a close shave. I'm going to try it next time with shaving soap & brush.Product Review: Excellent razor!

For my skin, this unit just works. I have a Parker 22r that I like too, but this is a better razor and gives me a better shave. The Parker doesn't get quite as close on looser areas of skin and around the neck, but it does fine shaving my head since the skin there is very taught. I use the Parker on my head with a Shark Super Chrome blade and I use the Merkur 38 HD on my face and neck with Feather blades. The Merkur gets a closer shave with less irritation as long as I'm careful and make sure my technique is solid. I expect that I'll be using this combination for quite a while. For a starter razor, the Parker is probably going to be better for most people, but once you get some time under your belt with DE shaving, try the Merkur.Product Review: Fantastic DE Razor

I have been wet shaving for quite some time now and while I don't consider myself the definitive expert I have tried quite a few of the tools that are available after you lather up. I have been on both ends of the spectrum from the gillette 56,000 blade system which is rediculously expensive for replacement blades and only gives a mediocre shave to the classic strait razor which was just a little too time consuming and nick prone for my liking. I am a traditionalist by nature and so have tried a number of the double edged razors like dad used to use.
The merkur is the best by far.
I like the heft of the HD and the long handle is great for a guy with big hands.
The blades are easily exchanged and once the mechanism is tightened down it does not come loose like some others I have used.
Overall fit and finish was excellent and it gives the closest shave so far.

I've recently begun moving from the marketing driven shaving devices I've used for the past 20+ years (Fusion, etc) to a more traditional shaving experience. I purchased the Merkur 38HD to complement my use of a straight razor, and all I can say is "Wow". The shaving experience is far superior to anything else I've ever used.
Just like many of the reviewers on this board, I did my research on multiple websites and paid close attention to their directions for using this double edge razor. I was highly sceptical that the weight of the razor alone would be sufficent...but I could not have been more wrong. My shave is now on par with anything I've ever done, and the long term investment pays for itself in a remarkably short time.
The razor itself is solid. Like any good piece of hardware the Merkur has good construction, heft, and quality materials. You know that this is an item that you will be able to use for many years to come. The replacement of blades is simple and straightforward.
