We needed something to assist my elderly mother who is living with us. My children use the same bathroom, so I needed something strong but relatively unobtrusive. This bar is very sturdy and very well made, as other reviews have mentioned. However, it only fit on the narrowest part of the side of our bathtub (the middle). Measure your bathtub before you order--it will only fit 6" wide, not the 7" in the description. If it will fit your tub, it is a perfect product: It is easy to install and remove and will not mar your tub. It does not interfere with our shower curtain configuration--liner on the inside of the tub, curtain on the outside. The safety bar opened enought to grip a 7-1/4" thick contoured garden tub. The grip has stayed secure, and on the one occassion when I slipped and put my entire 240 pound weight on it, the device stayed in place and allowed me to safely catch myself with the top hand grip.
