I've got several chinese made Maxam blades, and they're all fantastic. This one is no different. First, I hate carbon steel. I don't wanna have to kill myself just to keep a blade from rusting solid. The only place carbon steel belongs is in Machetes.
I haven't seen any straight razor that shipped "shave ready", but this was pretty close. So close that a few sweeps over my whet stone and I was dry shaving with it even though I haven't used a straight razor in years.
For the razor to be shave ready it has to have a steep blade. That makes it brittle and prone to chipping. You don't want to shave with a chipped blade, and you'll be grinding for a long time to remove the chipped area. Might as well throw the razor away.
That said, this is a great razor. Great high quality stainless. It holds an edge and won't rust solid. And I don't have to bath it in oil every time I put it away.
Takes a little more time to put an edge on stainless, but it's worth it not to have to throw the thing out in a week if you live in a humid area.
