This product gives me back my much needed sleep every night!! No longer do I have to wake up to the sound of the disgusting sound of the husband gagging himself with the toothbrush. (don't know why he does that) I wake up to my alarm instead!! The white noise drowns out all of the unwanted noise in the house. Let's face it, the little amount of sleep we do get is precious to us! We need it people! How many times have you woken up to some annoying sound on the street or in the house/apt.? Well, with this product, your sleep worries are gone! A good night's sleep is priceless. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this and I'm happy to write that the positive reviews were accurate.
I accidently ordered the 580A instead of the 980A, but decided not to return after reading that the low speed on the 980A was not very useful and few ever used it. The 580A gives off a mixed sound of static and fan sound and does an excellent job of blocking and minimizing the noise from the TV when my partner is in her office. I'm only about 20 feet away from her and with the door closed I can crank the TV up to over 17 on the volume meter. Way louder than I usually turn it up (12 or 13 is normal for me).
The only things it doesn't block well are distinctive noises, like talking on the phone, although I do have a rather loud and projecting voice.
I would definitely recommend this and will probably buy another one for the bedroom when one of us goes to bed while the TV is still on.

This product is one of the best things I have ever purchased. Sleep is very important to me. The white noise the Marpac generates allows me to sleep soundly all night long. This product is better than an electronic sound machine because there is no loop. I found myself staying awake trying to firgue out when the loop started over again and not sleeping. I always take my Marpac with me when I am sleeping in a hotel room or on vacation. I love this thing so much I have four of them. One for each guest room in the house and one for traveling.Product Review: An absolute MUST

My husband and I have used this every night for more than 8 years. We bought it when we were living in an apartment complex with very thin walls and were disturbed at night by noise from neighboring apartments. We'd never have survived living there without our SleepMate.
When our daughter was born nearly two years ago, we bought one for her room. She has been sleeping through the night since three months of age and we owe a great deal of the credit to her SleepMate.
We're expecting a son in a few months and just ordered one for his room as well. Babies thrive on white noise when they're learning to sleep, as it reminds them of the environment in the womb.
This little machine is a workhorse. In more than 8 years, we've never needed to perform any maintenance on ours. It has been with us through three moves and countless overnight trips. We can't sleep without it. It's that good.

I mainly got this for my girlfriend who insisted on sleeping with the ceiling fan on, even when it was freezing in the house. I was skeptical with this unit at first and I'll admit the first night I don't think I got any sleep at all. But after that its worked wonders for both my girlfriend and I. I actually am disappointed when we are away and we have to sleep without it. It sounds like a combination between water running through pipes, a fan, and that high pitched sound you hear when you are on a jet airplane. It is very soothing and helps drown out unwanted noise.
