When the pediatrician recommended a pee monitor for my 5yo boy, I was very against it. But after months of trying no diapers at bedtime, I relented. I did a lot of research and decided on the Malem Ultimate in Camo.
The primary reason I chose this model is because I thought my child may be more likely to embrace the camo design.
Upon arrival, I explained to him why we are using the device and how it worked. To my surprise, he completely was on board. In fact, he looked forward to putting it on at night. We used the monitor with underwear and a bed pad above the sheet. At start, he wet the bed 3 times per night. After 3 weeks, he was completely pee free. He wore it for another 2 weeks.
My child sleeps so sound, I never imagined this would work. But now he gets out of bed and goes pee at 1am with no problem.
Suggestions from my research and experience:
Make sure they wear it every night
Do not show them how to turn it off
Do not turn it off until they have stepped out of bed
Get one that vibrates and makes sounds. Multi-sounds not really necessary
Prepare not to get any sleep

Everything you need, now in one compact alarm. The Malem SELECTABLE combines light, sound and vibration to help even the deepest sleeper wake. A selection switch can be easily set to sound only, sound and vibration or vibration only. This alarm also has the added feature of allowing you to choose either eight different tones or one single sound. On the eight tone setting, one tone is activated each time the alarm is triggered to prevent audio accommodation, while the one tone setting allows you to choose your favorite sound to hear each time the alarm goes off. The alarm is connected to a clip-on sensor which detects moisture. This new Easy-Clip sensor easily clips and anchors to the outside of any close fitting underwear for boys or girls. NO sewing to hassle with or metal clips or snaps to come undone during the night. Compact, lightweight alarm unit is attached to the shoulder and sounds continuously until the 2-step turnoff is completed. NO mini-pads to buy and attach each night! Sensor contacts are within the clip so skin contact or sweating will not trigger the alarm. The SELECTABLE alarm uses inexpensive AAA batteries that last up to 10 times longer than standard "button" batteries found in nearly all other bedwetting alarms.
