Product Review: It really works!!!

After doing a lot of my own research, I bought a Malem bedwetting alarm for my 5-1/2 year old son, who was simply sleeping too deeply to wake up if he wet the bed at night. This was something he wanted--he didn't want to wear pullups anymore. Within 2-3 weeks he was having several dry nights and after about 6 weeks, he went 14 nights in a row without wetting--SUCCESS! We combined the use of the alarm with some of the great ideas in the book, Seven Steps to Nighttime Dryness: A Practical Guide for Parents of Children with Bedwetting by Renee Mercer. A year or two later, when my daughter expressed interest in staying dry at night, we began using the alarm with her. She was only four and a half, but it worked even faster. We started seeing dry nights in less than a week, and by the third week, she was completely dry every night. I simply can't recommend this product enough. I don't know why every pediatrician's office doesn't know about them and tell all of their patients about them!

Our 9 year old had had perhaps a handful of dry nights in his life, so we were ready to try the alarm. First of all, the thing is really tiny, about half a pack of cards, so it really doesn't get in the way too much. The blue unit attaches to their pajama top with a big, well-protected safety pin, and that is attached to the detection part (which is a small clip about 1cm by 2cm), which clips into their underpants (easy for boys with Y-fronts, not sure what people do for girls).
I STRONGLY recommend buying the alarm with the book we bought at the same time - "Waking up Dry" by Howard Bennett. It explains what the real statistics on bedwetting are, the biology of urination, what your child is going through and how to be ready to use the alarm. The time the child spends doing their "homework" (nothing to it really, but will help them stick to the task and make it seem do-able). The book should be compulsory reading for all parents with a bed-wetting child, and its written so that it can be read easily (and understood) by children.
After a couple weeks getting ready, we finally tried the alarm. The combination of the vibration and alarm sound was VERY good at waking him up, and he's a heavy sleeper. The first thing this showed us was that he was typically peeing twice a night and sometimes 3 times!! We wondered how long it was going to take, because from my research bedwetters that age are typically only going once a night. However, within the first week he was already waking himself to go to the bathroom BEFORE the alarm went off. It only took a few nights before when it did go off, he was able to stop the pee so quickly that the sheets did not get wet at all, and he did 90% of the pee in the toilet. Halleluja!!! Its now 2 months later and he's not using the alarm, and we're almost 100% dry... Between the alarm and the book its the best $100 you'll ever spend on your child. Truly amazing.

My son has used it for a little bit over 2 weeks, other than the first night, my son has not wet his bed again except 1 other night due to too much drinking. At first, I thought the sound and vibration won't be enough to wake him up, but was surprised the first night he was woken up and how badly he was shocked and cried. I don't hv to wake him up in the middle of his sleep anymore. And I am pleased to see the willingness from him to wear this even though he was really shaken up the first night. Since then, it has been pretty peaceful night.Product Review: It's a miracle!

I have never written a review for a product before, but this one is truly a miracle. I used it on my recently turned 6 year old boy who had never had a dry night his entire life and would wet through a name brand overnight pullup. After 7 nights with the alarm we had our first dry night and this was 17 nights ago. This alarm has somehow rewired his thinking so that he holds his bladder all night. My son is so proud of his accomplishments and this device is well worth the $$$. We had tried no liquids, waking him up, chiropractic treatments...all which did not work. This item is truly a MIRACLE!! I am now passing it on to my brother to try on his son. One word of warning: you will feel like you have a newborn while the buzzer is working, since you HAVE to get up and make sure that your child is awake...well worth the loss of sleep!!Product Review: KT plus 4

Our 8 yr. old son WAS a bed "flooder" even with a pull up on. I was washing his sheets several times a week because he leaked. It got to the point that even he was frustrated with the situation. I hesitated spending the $100 on an alarm hoping that he would outgrow the wetting but when he told me that he "hated" waking up wet then I knew it was time to buy. He has been wearing the alarm for three weeks now and has been dry for two weeks. The first 10 days he still tinkled but the alarm woke him and he got up to finish in the bathroom. He wore underpants with a pull up over them for that period but now he only wears the alarm with his underpants and he is sleeping through the night w/o waking to pee. He has been independent at managing the alarm which has been nice. Our 5 yr. old is still a bed wetter and I plan to use the alarm with her as well when she is old enough to manage it. Overall, I highly recommend this alarm. I can't comment about the less expensive alarms as I have not tried them, but I can say that this has been well worth the big price tag.
