Product Review: VERY frustrating

How would you like to be up at 3am, sick and trying to take a temperature and never get any consistent reading. Last night mine were between 97 and 102. And it has never worked well for anyone in any ear. I am so glad that we saved our mercury thermometer. Still don't know what to do for the babies.
Find something other than this product.
Product Review: Inaccurate, needs more consistent readings

The thermometer just did not seem to be very accurate and inconsistent. I used this thermometer about 15-20 times. I tested my son, 7 months, my wife and myself. I cleaned the tip each time and each time the degrees would vary by a couple to 5-7. It also builds up with ear wax which you must clean off with an alcohol wipe each time. So you are either using covers or alcohol wipes.
I ended up buying the
Braun Gillette Thermoscan In Ear Thermometer IRT4520
This item was 100% better and much more accurate.

This digital ear thermometer by Mabis really helps me take my temperature. I am going through a course of chemotherapy treatment and my doctor tells me that it is imperative that I monitor my temperature at least once a day.
The thermometer is remarkably easy to use and a HUGE improvement over those tough to read glass and mercury thermometers of the years when I was a kid. There's only one button for operation--it couldn't be easier than that! Insert the thermometer into your ear according to the specific instructions that will come with the thermometer. (If you have any questions or uncertainties about how to use this, ask a pharmacist, a doctor, a nurse or call the manufacturer to make sure that you're using the thermometer correctly.)
The thermometer numbers are easy to read and after you take your temperature you can just turn off the thermometer. If you forget to turn it off it will automatically turn itself off after ten minutes. In addition, you don't need to buy probe covers--that saves money. However, some people may want to swipe it down with an alcohol wipe after someone uses it and before the next person uses it.
One caution: this requires a Lithium battery. On the bright side, it has a low battery indicator. On the negative side, you'll want at least one spare fresh battery in the house at all times just in case the current battery begins to "go south" on you.
Overall, I highly recommend this type of thermometer. It's actually rather well constructed and it tells the temperature in large, very easy to read numbers in either Fahrenheit or Centigrade. It also works for children as well as adults--great!

I recently had a fever of 104 but when I used this thermometer few seconds apart I got readings of 101 to 102.5 in one ear and 102 to 104.5 in the other ear. Who wants to have to guess which reading is the correct one.
Pass this one by, it's worthless.

I see ear thermometers beeing used by doctors' clinics for years now. I always wanted one. But everytime I compare the price with an ordinary thermometer I can not justify the price to buy my own. Now the price of these kind of thermometers have fallen so much that I decided to get one.
You need to compare the readings of your old thermometer to get comfortable with its accuracy. Make sure the entire circumference of the tip is in contact inside the ear when taking a reading.
Pros:
-Fast reading at less than 1 second
-No probe covers needed. Probe covers are expensive.
-Price is reasonable
-You can see it in the dark
-You have the option to choose Fahrenheit or Centigrade
-Memory button so you can recall the last reading
-It has low battery indicator. It uses 1 CR2032 lithium battery.
-It comes with instruction manual (which you do not get often nowadays)
-it comes with a case
Cons:
-It came with a stub that you pull to engage the battery contacts the first time you use it. Still the one I receive has low battery already.
