Seems to be a fine water bottle. The smell can be calmed down. I made a paste with baking soda, spread it all over the rubber and let it sit for 12 hours. After rinsing, I let it air out outside. It helped immensely. Actually, the first night we used it before treating, the smell was pervasive. Now its just present enough so you know its there. This bottle is better than the last couple I've had in that it's rubber and has a good stopper that doesn't leak. However it SMELLS BAD. I thought the horrible rubber smell would clear up but after 2 months it's still there. Going to try Transparent Classic Hot Water Bottle - Made in Germany next.
