Product Reviews of LiceGuard Robi Comb Electronic Lice CombProduct Review: A valuable tool, but limited. May not be for you. Summary: 3 Stars
The first thing to keep in mind is that this won't be the only lice product you use. And to be honest we haven't used it much in our family (about halfway through our first lice infestation#, but it can make it easier to cope with the little bugs, especially for inspections.
The reason you'll need other products is one key limitation: this comb does not remove eggs or nits, and at least in our district the school nurse won't allow a child back in school if there are eggs. So you need a good regular comb that's effective against nits anyway.
It makes a high-pitched hum that stops briefly when it comes into contact with lice or nymphs. The sound can also stop briefly for other reasons, such as accidentaly touching the back of darling daughter's ear #ouch!#. The tines are charged, and presumably electrocute the lice; they can also cause a mild shock if you touch them. Having been zapped myself I'd say it's about like the shock you can get from static electricity. The instructions have some warnings; read them and use common sense.
So there's another limitation: you have to use it on dry hair.
I found it a bit difficult to use on my daughter's long hair. My guess is that with short hair it would be easier. The main challenges are keeping the #dry) hair that you've combed separate from the uncombed hair, and getting this rather small comb through every inch of every strand.
Finally, I don't think the box mentions or recommends this, but if you have those creepy tingling sensations that come with knowing there's been a louse in your house, with the Robi-comb you have a way of trying to inspect yourself. Without it, you need a partner you can trust.
To sum up: if you rely on only the Robi-comb to deal with a lice infestation you may be disappointed. But if you use it for the thing it does best: detecting lice and nymphs, you may find it valuable.
Product Review: A very helpful tool for lice issues! Summary: 5 Stars
This comb is great! My daughter has popped up with quite a lice infestation, and I was still finding live ones 24 hours post chemical treatment. This comb worked through her hair very easily (she does have pretty fine hair) and it was dead on, every time it stopped, It had a dead louse on it! Just a few reminders....
It will give a false positive on thick hair. Section it out into small sections, and the result will be better.
It does not pull out nits! I have read some of the reviews on here, and all of the unsatisfactory ones have to do with nits. You will need to use a smaller comb for those, or your fingernails.
You can boil or clean the comb part, but it does have to be completely dry before you use it again. A blow dryer works great for that!
If you are reading this, i assume you are in the throes of a lice infestation. Good luck and patience to you! This comb is great, and definitely will help expedite the removal of those BUGS!
Product Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
Yesterday I discovered my 6 year old daughter has lice. I went and bought a 3 step OTC for treatment. I followed the directions to the T for the shampoo, yet when it was time to comb out the dead lice (so said the instructions), they were all still alive! Every last one of them. I could have saved a ton of money by just buying a comb!
I found this product at a local major pharmacy. I tested it out on myself and all was clear. Then I sat my 7 year old son down. He has 4 inch long hair. He has Asperger's so he didn't like me touching his hair. Sensory overload for him. I didn't think I would find anything because I have been spot checking him for the last 2 days. He didn't like me combing through his hair with this because it pulled a little bit and he is very sensitive and didn't like all the touching of his head. When I was almost done with he last portion of his hair, the buzzing stopped. I took the comb out, and what do you know! I got one! There is no way my son is going to sit and let me do this to him everyday so I shaved his head. Once we are clear of the epidemic, I'll let him grow it out again. Then it was my daughters turn. I must have done pretty good with the treatment comb because I didn't find any lice her today. But I will continue to use this everyday for about 2 weeks. This product is wonderful, and it protected my son from a full blown infestation.
Product Review: Amazing!! Summary: 5 Stars
My son came home with lice today, and immediately, we went to the store searching for shampoo. I saw this on the shelf and said, "let's give it a try!" and I couldn't believe how fabulous it was! I immediately called the school nurse to tell her, and she was glad to hear that they were selling it so close by. It is fantastic, and gives my son a thrill when there is no stumbling upon a critter! The first hour was not pretty! Tonight, it was sweet music! Have patience, stay the course, and just be vigiliant is the only advice I can give! It's a tough road, but this certainly makes it a little more manageable! Off to smear with oil! LOL.
Product Review: Another layer of protection or peace of mind. Summary: 5 Stars
Repeated sharing of lice among 2nd graders required all kinds of effort and this was part of the back up system.
