Product Review: Whitens Teeth, Bad Side Effects

I bought these white strips in order to brighten up my smile. My teeth are getting whiter with use (been using for a week about now) as the product promises, but there are a few problems that make these white strips a pain to deal with at times.
When first using the product, I found it difficult to put on the strips exactly where they needed to go, especially on my bottom row of teeth. If I did end up applying the strips wrong it was a pain to try and get them off of the teeth and try again with a different strip.
The times I did get the strips on in the right place, I had very bad gum pain and irritation. It was a burning sensation wherever a significant portion of the strip met my gums. This sensation only got worse with more use and caused me to ultimately stop using the product completely. My gums were also weaken by the product and, with the most gentle of brushing, my gums would bleed. I know this gum sensitivity was caused by the product because after ceasing use of the strips, my gums returned to normal health fairly quickly.
If you do happen to not experience the horrible pain and irritation of the gums the strips can cause, I would recommend spitting out the by-product made by the strips. Although you can swallow them, it irritated my throat. The by-product is also very messy and it is probobly better to brush your teeth after the strips dissolve. This does not make the strips good to use on-the-go, unlike the package states.
The one good thing about this product is that I did notice whiter teeth after use for about a week. However, I stopped using the product because of all the problems it caused. My recommendation would be to not buy this product and either try another do-it-yourself teeth whitening product or see your dentist and get your teeth whitened professionally. It may cost more, but I'm sure it will be less of a pain that these strips were for me.
