This is a great product if you have an injury that requires such a tape. I was given a sample of the tape from an OT who thought it would work for me. but I was pleasantly surprised. When my back pain got so terrible that every small iota of relief counted big I was ready to try anything.
So I gave kinesio a try and this is what I found:
It gives you a constant 'cooling' sensation on the muscles taped - so it feels kind of like you've got a fan on those exact spots. A little strange.
In and of itself the cool sensation isn't pain-relieving or particularly unpleasant or pleasant for that matter, but interestingly after wearing the tape for a little while, the area just feels stronger.
I can't tell if it's because the tape is "lifting the skin" such that oxygen can reach the area better and "lymph tissue can drain better," as the advertisements say, or if it's because the tape is bracing or aligning the area, or whatnot - but it definitely feels better.
It's as if the act of taping it gives your muscles a counterforce to play off of, if that makes sense.
Anyhow, I don't know exactly how the product works, other than that it's not merely placebo. Don't expect it to save you from a burning building, but it's certainly not useless or a total sham as it may appear.

With proper application through help of physical therapist, the tape really works.
