We got ours at Sharper Image a few years ago. It still works like it did when it was new. It does take some time to warm up; better to start it a few minutes before you're going to use it. The heater is in the handle apparently; it seems to blow a little air through, like a hair dryer but not so forceful. So that would be the reason the blue ball on the end does not warm up right away, because it's heated by hot air rather than directly.
