Product Reviews of Imak Products Adjustable Pil-O-Splint Nighttime Wrist Splint - Great for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, Wrist Tendonitis # 10112

Product Review: Best nighttime splint
Summary: 5 Stars

Wearing these splints every night has saved me from surgery and greatly improved my ability to work on the computer for many hours during the day (usually without daytime braces). They are very comfortable, well padded, and breathable. I have recommended them frequently to friends and co-workers.

Product Review: Comfortable, but not quite perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

These splints are a decent solution for night-time numbness and wrist pain for people with carpal tunnel problems. These are definitely night-time splints only, since they immobilize not only the wrist, but also the fingers. As night splints, they are the only ones I have found currently on the market that do the job, since night splints must also keep the wrist from moving backwards. Ordinary day-time splints don't work at night (at least for me) because, while they keep your wrists from moving forwards, they let them flop backwards in your sleep, which causes numbness and pain. These splints have slits for your thumb on both sides; that is the slits are for thumbs only, not for fingers--don't sleep with your fingers out the slit opposite your thumb. The reason the thumb slots are on both sides is so that either splint can be used on either hand--you don't need separate right and left handed splints with these. Putting them on the first time by yourself can be challenging, since it is quite difficult to wrap them tight with just one hand. But after you have got the size right, you just pull them straight off your hands without unwrapping them, so you only need assistance that first time. (If you have trouble getting them off, you can get some leverage by sticking one thumb in the top of the thumb slit on the opposite splint and pulling with your thumb).

When I first tried on these splints, I was amazed at how soft and comfortable they were. The inner lining is exceptionally soft. But that didn't last. After about 3 months of daily use and ordinary laundering, the originally soft lining had become pilled. The wraps and Velcro, however, are still secure after a year of use and multiple washings.

What makes these splints less than ideal for me is the fact that they immobilize the fingers as well as the wrists. While this may be indicated for some patients, especially those recovering from surgery, I find that my fingers are always extremely stiff and painful in the mornings after using these splints. With my old splints, I could bend my fingers (but not my wrists) at night, and I never had stiffness or pain in my fingers after wearing them. Another disadvantage of having immobilized fingers as with these splints is that if you have to get up for any reason during the night, you have to take the splints off in order to do so much as push the covers away. Still, these are an effective solution for night-time carpal tunnel symptoms and would probably prove adequate and durable for many people.

Product Review: Concept is good... didn't work for me
Summary: 2 Stars

It is true that keeping the fingers in a straighter position while at rest is beneficial, but I am a smaller person, and the design prevented me from attaining a reasonable fit. The shank runs down the back of the hand, so the softer part of the splint that wraps around under the fingers is supposed to "cradle" the fingers into a relaxed straight position. In my case there was way too much slack. I slid a wooden ruler under the strap on the underside, which seemed to help, but it is still awkward and uncomfortable to sleep in. I seem to take it off in my sleep... so I have not realized any benefit from the hassle.

Product Review: Even Better than I hoped!

I don't know that I have "Carpal Tunnel", but I've had wrist strain and soreness all my life. I used to use the velcro braces with the metal slat cupped like the palm of your hand, but the pain in my wrists prompted me to constantly over-tighten them. I found them too painful to use. Then I found this product. I was a little skeptical at first, but the position it puts your hand in is a cure-all! After the first nights use, the pain and tingling both hands was gone for nearly the entire day. I can't believe the RELIEF!!! I was a little worried that my fingers would get stiff, but there is plenty of wiggle room in this brace. I find it very comfortable (though a little hot for Texas summer nights). To address the problem some people have with washing it to the point where it matts down, I have taken one of my husbands old socks and cut thumb and finger holes in them, and I slip that on before I put my hand in the brace. I wash the sock, not the brace. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I also found that it is easy to slip on and off once velcroed. It's a great brace, if you have wrist pain, I HIGHLY reccomend this, and don't wear it too tight!

Product Review: Excellent!!

I was having problems with my right hand (mouse hand) and my right wrist. Combining this with my B6 have certainly helped. It did take a while to get used to it and it can be rather warm to wear but well worth it. My mother spent a lot of money on her wrist splints and these were just as good as the ones she bought.
