Product Reviews of Homedics SS-4500 SoundSpa Classic Clock Radio, SilverProduct Review: Best Sound Machine Ever! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this sound machine! We use them for our children. I bought a different one for our daughter and it was terrible. We had our first one for 2 1/2 years now and it still sounds perfect! So we should have just ordered another one instead of wasting money on a smaller one. The clock is a little bright but if you are using it in a child's room it is sort of like a little night light. If it is in an adults room just turn it away from you a little bit. I kind of wish they made it without the part that shines the time on the ceiling - you can turn it off which is great but we never use it so if it wasn't there that would be just fine too. Overall the best sound machine we have ever owned!
Product Review: Best sleep money can buy Summary: 5 Stars
Bought 2 of these (1 for spare) to replace an older unit that finally gave up the ghost. They've changed the style a bit but it's still the same quality unit we bought years ago. We turn off the "beamed" time feature as the last thing we want to look at is what time it is splashed across the ceiling when trying to get to sleep. As for the brightness of the display, I had some stick on tint that I bought at an auto parts store I cut a small piece to size to dim down the numbers, problem solved. We like rain and ocean, some of the sounds are a little intrusive but there is something for everyone, don't notice any repeats in the 2 we use. I HATE REPEATS so this is important. If there is a pattern I will just lay there focusing on the repeat, not good.
As for the older one: When we went to plug in the new one it turned out that the wire from the power supply went bad from years of flexing, could have just gotten a replacement power supply from the local electronics store and been good to go. These things last.
Product Review: Big help in falling asleep Summary: 4 Stars
I read all the reviews and debated on purchasing this clock since several people mentioned that the projection and LCD lights were too bright. I am very happy that I decided to purchase it anyways.
My pre-teen daughter has been having issues falling asleep lately and I thought it would help to listen to calming and smoothing sounds while she tries to sleeps. Let me tell you, it has help a great deal. She is able to have the sounds play all night long and still have the alarm clock set to "beep" in the mornings. The ambient noises are crystal clear with no scratchy or static noises in the background. Very realistic sounding. The lights are a little bright but that is OK with her since she always uses a night light in her room. The only thing she did not like about he clock is that the radio dial is hard to read since the numbers are small and it is not lit, other than that she is extremely happy with the Homedics SS-4500 SoundSpa Classic Clock Radio.
Product Review: Bright light! Bright light! Summary: 3 Stars
For people with heart conditions, this is your clock. No more getting scared to death when the alarm goes off. Nature sounds volume is adjustable, though some of the sounds, like the ocean waves, don't sound very realistic. If you have a cat, the bird chirping sound will probably drive it nuts. All of these are great features. Drawbacks: the projection light is fantastic for far-sighted people who, like me, cannot read the clock itself without glasses. Just remember to put your heavy-duty sun glasses on before going to bed. This light is so bright it lights up half the room. The face of the clock has a dimmer switch on the back - choice one: light up your room at night as if it were daytime, or choice two: but it on hi and watch the neighbors call 911 due to the blue light eminating from your windows. Forget about sleeping unless you wear a sleep mask, or just do what I do - throw a washcloth over the whole thing. The projection light will still be visible on the ceiling even through the cloth, but it will be a lot dimmer. So will the clock face. But there are very few nature sounds clocks out there, and most of them are for falling asleep to them, and have a regular buzzer alarm to wake up to. So your choices are limited. Mine just broke, so I am looking to replace it, and will probably buy it again as I can't find another clock with nature sounds "wake up" alarms. This is a decent price, I have seen it for $17 on E-Bay, but with shipping it comes to just about the same. Bought mine in Walmart for $25 but they no longer carry Homedics. Other places are asking up to $40 for it.
Product Review: Burned out when battery plugged in Summary: 1 Stars
As soon as I put a battery in this unit I got that burned electronics smell
and it stopped working completely. It was brand new. I had just adjusted
the time/alarm and wanted to move it to a different outlet. So I put in a
battery to save the settings. A 9V battery is hard to put in incorrectly.
This product was a waste of money, time and materials.
