Product Reviews of Homedics SC-540 LCD 400 lb/180 kg Capacity Bath Scale with Body Composition Scanner

Product Review: Not consistent
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this scale to replace a regular scale so I could keep track of my body composition. The scale is not consistent. It reads the same exact weight for days while my old scale says I've lost a couple pounds. To check its accuracy I created a new user with my age and height, and only then did it tell me I lost weight. If I can't trust the weight feature of this scale, how can I trust that the other readings are accurate?

Product Review: Product appears to estimate your body make up percentages
Summary: 3 Stars

I just bought this product. There is a significant difference between athletic and normal mode for percentage body made up (fat, water, muscle, bone). My percentage at normal for fat make up was 35.6% vs. 13.9% in athletic mode. Since I work out most days, I believe the athletic mode is relatively accurate for percentages for me but I am not sure. I do like 12 people can weight themselves to get the different percentages and weight and it saves the data from the prior weighing. I was depressed the first time I got on this scale as it showed 35.6% body fat, which is obese. After playing with the options (& lowering my age to 50 from 51 as 51 does not have an athletic mode), I changed to athletic mode and it improved my outlook (& the percentages). Suggest you use only in athletic mode if you get this product.

Product Review: disappointed
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this scale because my other scale stopped working after five years...a Tanita scale that never made me question its validity.
This one is a different story. I don't trust it because within seconds, the readouts are different. So I don't know which is the accurate measure--if any.

I should have just bought a scale on-line the first time, but I went to the store where I had purchased the Tanita, and they no longer carry that brand, so standing in the store, without reviews to peruse, I chose this one, and I regret it. I've just purchased another Tanita from an online store, and I'm hoping it is as reliable as the one I purchased five years ago...
